We start out life knowing nothing and learning mightily for years. Then suddenly, without warning, when we are 18 or so, we know everything. Luckily this stops within a year or two, but what if it doesn’t? How does this happen?
Let’s looks some definitions. Ignorance comes from two words- “ig,” meaning without and “gnosis,” knowledge. But ignorance is not a sin. Not knowing something is a simple lack, like not having enough gasoline for your car. If you know how to get some, you go get it.
For example, I am ignorant about the bond market; I have no interest in it but I do know where to go if I want information. A five year old is ignorant about bond markets too but we don’t expect him to know and why should he? He’s only five. And if he went online to buy bonds he would be stopped. That would be ignorance joined with arrogance, hence twins.
Arrogance comes from this word- “arrogate,” to take or claim (something) without justification, also to usurp. The word requires a presumption of some level of authority. You cannot usurp a position as President of the United States if you actually are the President and have the authority of the office. The opposite of arrogant is then qualified or authoritative.
In my business I often see this: “The Bible says” and then there is quoted some outrageous nonsense. There are only two kinds of people who do this: (1) those who have not read the Bible and are parroting someone else’s words or (2) someone who has read the Bible and didn’t like what it said. Since many people today are ignorant about what is actually inside their Bibles the speaker can count on not be challenged.
But the reason I am writing here is that the news Media has become largely an exercise in ignorance and arrogance. And the bigger the Media the bigger the arrange and therefore the larger the misinformation, also now rightfully called lies.
“The Constitution says” – I have a copy of the Constitution in my handbag and so far I have never needed to pull it out, but those times when a TV personality has “quoted” the Constitution they apparently did not know what the Constitution said. Now if the critic is Alan Dershowitz I listen; his politics and mine don’t match but when he speaks on this subject he has authority. The final authority is the Supreme Court but it has made some embarrassing mistakes in the past, such as the Dred Scott decision. Men are not omniscient although occasionally they pretend to be.
The next time you hear the words “the Bible said” or “the Constitution says” or “President Trump said” pull out your phone and do a search. You’ll have the last laugh.
The American public routinely becomes testy with the sitting President of the United States, maybe it’s boredom, maybe the culture has just moved on. In the 1940’s folks were disgusted with Franklin Roosevelt’s grandiose notions of his assuming a four term kingship. They hassled Harry Truman over his not-so-savory buddies. They fumed about General Eisenhower’s 3% inflation. Three percent??? Oh for the day!
John Kennedy lowered taxes which the statists did not like. Johnson increased the debt and blacks lost their homes in record numbers. Nixon made everybody mad and the Media gained too much power thinking it could elect and remove politicians at will, and perhaps it can. President Jimmy Carter refused to kowtow to elites and Ronald Reagan refused to kowtow to the press. George Bush #1 made the mistake of compromising, Clinton made sexual license seem like an innocent game and they hated George Bush #2, because, well they just did. Finally inert Barak Obama inaugurates the nadir of life and culture, especially economic decay. Average household loss during his years was $40,000 which he tried to blame on others, and he added a crushing economic load of taxes and regulation. Barak means in the original language “blessing” – well maybe not.
All this public kvetching usually occurs in the second term. But poor Donald Trump has not had one minute of approbation except from his dismayed followers.
The Bible says there is a spiritual cause for everything. So we are not to look to the newspaper or TV for the answers.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
This Bible is two books; the Old Testament outlines the moral law, which means that everything it says is true whether you know it or follow it or not. It applies just as equally to the dictator of North Korea as it does to the Governor of Maine. Old-timers, one of them was Aristotle, called this Natural Law, meaning it happened anyway; just sit back and watch.
The New Testament, in addition to its key message of salvation of the soul, tells how individuals and nations can apply the moral law to their decisions and behavior to improve on human life. The Protestant Reformation caught this message and went full bore ahead. Our world today is a reflection of this theology in practice.
At the same time our morals have deteriorated at an exponential rate, as Robert Bork wrote, Slouching toward Gomorrah; not so, we are racing there. The 50 years from 1950 to 2000 represent a replacing of most of the assumptions that the natural law applies to us. To wit: the wildly successful and profitable abortion industry which has slaughtered more than Murder for Hire, some 117 million babies according to estimates since legalization in 1973. But legal does not mean moral and it’s the moral law under siege here. Shabby attempts to call babies “tissue” have actually failed, but we are stuck with the law, the statistics and millions of women trying to hide guilt.
Divorce had many causes after World War 2, not the least being the dearth of males in the USA and a lopsided system of leaving women poor with child custody. Generations of poor children then became the unhappy and disconnected rebels of the late 60s and on. Today these confused, partly homeless latch key kids are now gender confused.
Churches are losing members, the one place where morals were once taught, but now no more lest someone might be offended. Heaven help us that God should offend us! Jesus said He would bring division.
Matthew 10:34-36 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
Sodomy is OK now too, even embraced by churches and decaying denominations who know that sodomites have more money to spend because they don’t have children, and there is always that mortgage to pay. Reminds you of selling indulgences, doesn’t it?
Defacing monuments, as a ruse for erasing history, is still public vandalism. History is not your enemy; history is morally neutral and changing it can’t be done. Hitler tried to erase Jews. The Palestinians tried to erase the Holocaust. The Civil War is real and that’s that.
Gunning your car through a group of citizens is still attempted murder; oral sex still results in an increase in mouth cancers; opioid pills no matter how obtained, stolen or prescribed, still kill in large, unchecked numbers; maryjane is still no lady and she still seduces unsuspecting kids into drug addiction if they have addictive personalities as so many do. Adultery, child abuse, animal abuse are all too common, all taken in stride, the mother’s milk of drama and news. It is hard to be shocked anymore but it is still evil only now they call it something else.
Weak willed hypocritical Congressmen are still exposed by their forked-tongue votes; people who make a business and practice of hate, public or private are still reprobate anarchists in spite of media white washing; Sharia Law is still a gross violation of human decency no matter how many football fields and other emoluments the Islamists finance for local schools; the world is filled with more George Soros’ just ready to do what he has done if he is gone.
Spiritual wickedness in high places is not about humans or humanism, although humanism has made anti-human life possible and acceptable. It is about evil on the throne of a culture.
Enter Donald Trump 2016. Why is he so hated? The answer is plain. The Media and the licentious generations of the last 50 years fear he will restore the Moral Law as the Law of the Land. To acknowledge Donald Trump is to acknowledge one’s moral depravity, or at least its tacit acceptance in the public square. We can’t have that; we can’t change because change means admitting what you can’t face about yourself.
Trump can’t restore the Moral Law of course, because it already rules whether the president is Mr. Trump or Maxine Waters. It rules not just individuals but also nations and the inanimate universe as well. The collapse of law and order and the noxious culture of f-bombs filling the airways are the visible results
Your panicky efforts to be rid of the moral law won’t work; and Donald Trump can’t restore it either. The human race is stuck with truth. Donald Trump has done the one thing modern men cannot tolerate; he told the truth. The truth can make you free, if you can accept it. The Media will not accept that. Truth-tellers will be crucified, as you well know.
That war is now being fought out in our public streets, a valley of decision for each individual. Where will you stand?
Some television documentaries about Elizabeth, the longest reigning monarch in British history, the most popular, the most traveled and apparently the most resilient, have crowded PBS this summer. They call these programs panegyrics because they really are over the top. What caught my eye was her statement that after her exciting life, heaven would be a “come down.”
Madam, I need to tell you about heaven. Not only is it no come down it is so off the charts you will be astounded. You will be 33 years old and you looked great then.
You like horse racing? Well this time you are not the spectator, you can be the jockey. You like Corgis. In heaven you can have 100 of them if you prefer, although even there that may be too many. You can eat ice cream any time you want. No annoying paparazzi will photograph you; no one will ask your opinion, and your name won’t be Queen, so no one will call you Ma’m. You’ll be Betty Windsor or something like that. You can walk anywhere in heaven and people won’t bother you. You’ll never be required to wear a hat with a matching handbag again.
If you want to walk on the bottom of the sea, I will join you when I get there. If you want a sit down with Henry the Eight, if perchance he is there, you can compare notes about the process of governing and he will straighten out all the redacted history unknown on planet earth. You’ll catch up with the news on Diana, and get a chance to see how history changed for us all on her death. And if there was any hanky-panky you’ll learn that too, if you wish.
But I rather suspect you’ll have more fun at the zoo where now you can talk to the animals. Just keeping up with the angels should have you entertained for a 1,000 years or so.
Let’s remember here that God created this fantastically diverse universe about which we know perhaps 1/10th, so the heaven He created will be glorious beyond all expectations.
If you have the patience, sit back and watch Natural Law demonstrate its ability to predict outcomes. The Big Lie theory is on display and it is a spiritual problem in the United States, the last vestiges of world wide religious and spiritual fraud in battle gear.
“A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.” Joseph Goebbels
For over a year now the Marionettes of Big TV and Newspapers, K Street, Washington D.C. and Hollywood have played the same drama over and over, like a Punch and Judy show of memorized lines. The audience knows all, it can even predict events, but the Marionettes do not. The script never changes – Trump is illegitimate, incompetent, scheduled for impeachment, dangerous, hating people and planning to destroy lives and all the while in cahoots with unidentified Russians, without a shred of evidence for any of it.
The audience knows it is all fiction because they are in the real world where President Trump made more progress in changing the declining face of America in six months than any previous President including Ronald Reagan. Still the drama masquerading as real life continues.
This would be acceptable except now the Marionettes have moved from deception which is deliberate, into delusion which is not. Delusion, and I quote the dictionary, “an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder.” In a word, they are nuts.
So how will this play out. Recent polls have reported that Trump is wildly unpopular, barely hanging threadlike onto his chaotic presidency. The numbers are all under 30%. The Marionettes believe this and head like lemmings into a sea of trouble. Fact is – 16% or more Democrats are polled, and like fake news, supporting fake facts and therefore fake conclusions. If you realize you are lying you know the conclusions are fake; if you don’t and believe your own lies, you sink into delusion.
Senators have taken sides against Trump while their voters back home rejoice in the President’s successes. A handful have figured this out – such as the Governor of West Virginia and Senator Joe Manchin. If those fake polls are believed and it seems many have subscribed to the very Big Lie they thought they were controlling, it is now controlling them.
If you deliberately lie to others and then believe the lie you told, you will be trapped by your delusions and go down in defeat. Sit back the next two or three Novembers while the voters enjoy some well-earned Schadenfreude.
Schadenfreude – gloating over another’s misfortune
TLB Psalm 147:9 He feeds the wild animals, and the young ravens cry to him for food.
Clearly this is a metaphor. No one had to tell me that. I learned about metaphors in the 9th grade. But who am I to micromanage God’s word? Perhaps God meant that birds speak to him and because he knows bird language, which I do not, they are speaking to God and He responds.
In the New Testament it says that there is no sound without signification, in other words, meaning.
So when the lions grunt, or the chipmunks squeak, that is speech – of sorts. God spoke everything into existence and this can be just another process of communication. Audiologists tell us there are many sounds we do not hear at all. I wonder who God is talking to then.
And we have this business about the stars:
Psalm 147: 4 He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
You do not call someone by name if they don’t have a name, and more importantly you don’t call them if they cannot also answer. How do stars talk? Or perhaps stars means personalities of some kind. Astronomers say all stars give off a distinct, unique sound. Huumm.
The heavens have a voice which is heard everywhere according to Psalm 19.
19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun.
We shall not be able to decipher God’s speech to animals, birds and stars but perhaps we can restrain our assumption that we understand what the Bible is telling us. Perhaps if we just ask Him what He means, He will tell us.
