How States Can Man-Up and Stop Abortion

If the American People [and American lawyers] had been properly educated, they would know that our federal Constitution created a federal government of enumerated powers only; and that most of the powers delegated to Congress over the Country at Large are listed at Art. I, §8, clauses 1-16, US Constitution.

“Abortion” is not listed among the enumerated powers. Therefore, Congress has no power to make any laws about abortion for the Country at Large.[1]  And since “abortion” isn’t “expressly contained” in the Constitution, it doesn’t “arise under” the Constitution; and since state laws restricting abortion don’t fit within any of the other categories of cases the federal courts are authorized by Art. III, §2, cl. 1 to hear, the federal courts also have no power over this issue.

So from the beginning of our Constitutional Republic until 1973, everyone understood that abortion is a State matter.  Accordingly, many State Legislatures enacted statutes restricting abortion within their borders.

But in 1973, the US Supreme Court issued its opinion in Roe v. Wade and made the absurd claim that Section 1 of the 14th Amendment contains a “right” to abortion.  In Why Supreme Court opinions are not the ‘Law of the Land,’ and how to put federal judges in their place, I showed why the Supreme Court’s opinion in Roe is unconstitutional.

But Americans have long been conditioned to believe that the Constitution means whatever the Supreme Court says it means.[2] Accordingly, for close to 50 years, American lawyers and federal judges have mindlessly chanted the absurd refrain that “Roe v. Wade is the Law of the Land”; State governments slavishly submitted; and 60 million babies died.

So who has the lawful authority to stop abortion?

1- Congress has constitutional authority to ban abortion in federal enclaves and military hospitals

Over the federal enclaves, Congress has constitutional authority to ban abortion:  Pursuant to Article I, §8, next to last clause, Congress is granted “exclusive Legislation” over the District of Columbia, military bases, dock-Yards, and other places purchased with the consent of the State Legislatures (to carry out the enumerated powers).[3]Article I, §8, cl.14 grants to Congress the power to make Rules for the government and regulation of the Military Forces.  Accordingly, for the specific geographical areas described at Article I, §8, next to last clause, and in US military hospitals everywhere, Congress has the power to make laws banning abortion.

2- But federal courts have no constitutional authority over abortion

Article III, §2, cl. 1 lists the ten categories of cases federal courts have authority to hear.  They may hear only cases:

  • “Arising under” the Constitution, or the Laws of the United States, or Treaties made under the Authority of the United States [“federal question” jurisdiction];
  • Affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers & Consuls; cases of admiralty & maritime Jurisdiction; or cases in which the U.S. is a Party [“status of the parties” jurisdiction];
  • Between two or more States; between a State & Citizens of another State; between Citizens of different States; between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States; and between a State (or Citizens thereof) & foreign States, Citizens or Subjects [“diversity” jurisdiction]. [4]

These are the only cases federal courts have authority to hear.  Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 83 (8th para):

“…the judicial authority of the federal judicatures is declared by the Constitution to comprehend certain cases particularly specified. The expression of those cases marks the precise limits beyond which the federal courts cannot extend their jurisdiction, because the objects of their cognizance being enumerated, the specification would be nugatory if it did not exclude all ideas of more extensive authority.”  [boldface added]

Obviously, State laws restricting abortion don’t fall within “status of the parties” or “diversity” jurisdiction; and federal courts haven’t claimed jurisdiction on those grounds.  Instead, they have asserted that abortion cases “arise under” the US Constitution!

But in Federalist No. 80 (2nd para), Hamilton states that cases “arising under the Constitution” concern

“…the execution of the provisions expressly contained in the articles of Union [the US Constitution]…” [5]  [boldface added]

Obviously, “abortion” is not “expressly contained” in the Constitution.  So it doesn’t “arise under” the Constitution.  In Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court had to redefine the word, “liberty”, which appears in §1 of the 14th Amendment, in order to claim that “abortion” “arises under” the Constitution.

Section 1 of the 14th Amendment says:

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” [boldface added] [6]

Do you see where it says that pregnant women have the “right” to abortion?  It isn’t there!  So this is what the Supreme Court did to legalize killing babies:  They said “liberty” means “privacy” and “privacy” means state laws banning abortion are unconstitutional.  And American lawyers and judges have slavishly gone along with this evil absurdity ever since!

3- States must reclaim their traditionally recognized reserved power to restrict abortion!

Since “abortion” is a power reserved by the States or the People, State Legislatures should reenact State Statutes restricting abortion.

When a lawsuit is filed in Federal District Court alleging that the State Statute violates the US Constitution, the State Attorney General should file a motion in the Court to dismiss for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.  He should point out that the Court has no constitutional authority to hear the case; that Roe v. Wade is void for lack of subject matter jurisdiction; that “abortion” is one of the many powers reserved by the States; and that the State Legislature properly exercised its retained sovereign power when it re-enacted the Statue restricting abortion.

The State Attorney General should also advise the Court that if the Court denies the Motion to Dismiss, the State will not participate in the litigation and will not submit to any pretended Orders or Judgments issued by the Court.

Now!  Here is an interesting fact which everyone would already know if they had had a proper education in civics:  Federal courts have no power to enforce their own Judgments and Orders.  They must depend on the Executive Branch of the federal government to enforce their Judgments and Orders.[7]

Since President Trump has proclaimed his opposition to abortion, who believes that he would send in the National Guard to force the State to allow physicians to kill more babies within the State?  Please understand:  An opinion or ruling from a federal court means nothing unless the Executive Branch chooses to enforce it.[8]THIS IS THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH’S “CHECK” ON THE JUDICIAL BRANCH! If the President, in the exercise of his independent judgment, thinks that an Order or Judgment of a federal court is unconstitutional, it is his duty imposed by his Oath of Office [9] to refuse to enforce it.

4- The modern day approach to dealing with absurd Supreme Court Opinions

But most pro-life lawyers will tell you we should proceed as follows:  That we need to get a number of States to pass “heartbeat laws”.  Pro-abortion forces will then file lawsuits in federal district courts alleging that the heartbeat laws violate Roe v. Wade and are “unconstitutional”.  Most States will lose in the federal district courts.  But they can appeal to one of the 13 US Circuit Courts of Appeal. Most of the States will also lose in the Circuit Court.  But if just one Circuit Court rules in favor of the heartbeat law, then there will be “conflict” among the Circuits and the US Supreme Court is likely to hear the issue.  This will give the US Supreme Court the opportunity [years from now] to revisit Roe v. Wade, and they might overrule it!

But I suggest, dear Reader, that we must purge our thinking of the assumption that we can’t have a moral and constitutional government unless Five Judges on the Supreme Court say we can have it.  Since it is clear that federal courts have no constitutional authority over abortion, why do we go along with the pretense that they do?  Why not just man-up and tell them, “You have no jurisdiction over this issue”?

The Executive not only dispenses the honors, but holds the sword of the community. The legislature not only commands the purse, but prescribes the rules by which the duties and rights of every citizen are to be regulated. The judiciary, on the contrary, has no influence over either the sword or the purse; no direction either of the strength or of the wealth of the society; and can take no active resolution whatever. It may truly be said to have neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments.” [caps are Hamilton’s; boldface added]

[8] During the Eisenhower administration, a federal court ordered the State of Arkansas to desegregate their public schools. But the Governor of Arkansas refused to comply with the federal court orders. So President Eisenhower sent in the National Guard to force Arkansas to admit black students to a public school. See this archived article from the New York Times.

Here, Eisenhower chose to enforce the Court’s Order. But if he had decided that he would NOT enforce it, the schools would have remained segregated.  Federal courts are dependent on the Executive Branch of the fed. gov’t to enforce their OrdersThis is what Hamilton is talking about in Federalist No. 78.

[9] The President’s Oath is to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” (Art. II, §1, last clause).   It is not to obey the Judicial Branch of the fed. gov’t.

Symbolism of Seeds

One of the major symbols in the Holy Bible is the seed. It refers to many things, primarily human beings, as being created from a family seed, to Jesus as the promised Messiah and the seed of a woman who will save the world as early as the book Genesis and the deeds that are sown in society, our works, our words, our presence which makes its mark on the world. That is a lot of territory.

The Promised Seed

First, after Adam and Eve make such a disastrous decision to disobey God, He reveals to them His plan – that the seed of a woman will save the world. Genesis This seed is the offspring that is born thousands of years later in the land of Abraham. Mary had the proper seed (ovum) , and the Holy Spirit provided the sperm. What came forth was the person who would change the world. This is contrary to what human beings do – they create systems; God changes the world by bringing in a baby.

The Law of Sowing and Reaping

Second, we are told that seeds only reproduce their own kind. But to do this the plant must “die” or release the seeds from the pods into the ground. When Jesus died he made provision that a generation of people over the next several millennia could reproduce his works and His words to future societies. This explains his statement, “it will be counted to him for a generation. http://Psalm 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

A generation comes from the word “gene” which refers to the imprint of the nature of Jesus on future human beings who will also be saviors and change agents. We have His DNA.

Finally there is you and me – that generation coming forth to replicate the life of Jesus in our own time with our own neighbors. What we are is in one small part a portion or reflection of that seed of the first seed, the Lord Himself. For one it might be music, another writing, another preaching, another an honorable businessman or politician or sports figure. We aren’t the whole package like the Lord, but we are part of it.

This last usage of the word seed is the substance of this song by Glen Campbell.

Planted by God (you and I if we are obedient servants of the Lord)
In a field without worth (in this fallen and evil world)
We are but seeds in His eyes
So He nurtures with grace
And His hands work the earth
That His fruit may be sanctified

This is our real inheritance in God- that we leave a message, more precisely we are a message to be planted in future generations. When Jeremiah says, quoting God, “I have plans for you,” this is what he is talking about. Blessed are those who find the path God has for them.

What is a Jesus Generation?

Psalm 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

This verse refers to a seed as a group of people who have been birthed out of their loyalty to Jesus who will make up for the fact that He died 7 years short of a full generation 40 years. To the Jews 40 years was a generation, and He died at age 33. But his ministry is entitled to 7 more years of fruitfulness.

Those years will be filled instead by his followers who live and work for His kingdom.

A Generation is 40 Years

Non Jews may not understand this. Many Westerners think 20 years is a generation but the Jews made it twice that because even though children enter adulthood at 20, they do not reach maturity until well after that and then they become productive. They also have a chance in those years to provide offspring, considered a goal of life by Jewish leaders.

For the Christian those offspring are supposed to be followers of the Lord, continuing the generation of Jesus and his overpowering influence on a fallen world. In other words “religious apples” fall off the tree as well as genetic ones.

Today the generations are as follows: Millennials – born between 1984 and 2002. GenXers, born between 1965 and 1983. Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 and Elders born prior to 1945. These generations all have distinct qualities, leaders, opinions, histories and consequently are reached by different ministries.

The Speed of Life

There is some cause to define these as 20 years rather than 40 because the speed of life has increased exponentially, due to the rapid expansion of technology. Previous culture and centuries saw little or no changes. It would be unthinkable for us to discuss, for example, a Hundred Years War such as they had in England.

Since Jesus is an eternal being and since his ministry is also eternal, the 7 years of his entitlement can spread over many hundreds of years. God has a different view of time. https://wouldyouconsider.net/2014/11/15/gods-view-of-time-kairos-and-chronos/

Not all believers are part of this seed as many of God’s people are non-obedient. Believers will be judged on the basis of their obedience to the word of God. Heaven will be a very interesting place.

Your life in Christ is Hidden

Look at a picture of a group of people. Can you pick out the Christians? You’d probably be wrong. We are told to grin by the photographer, and since they say Christians are happier they’d all look happy. The one Christian with a grumpy face might actually have diarrhea. So externals are not the key.

Truth be told God does not want people recognizing you externally for your faith. Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

This needs some explaining. What is dead in your old self?

Baptism symbolizes death to your old life

When you were baptized in water that indicated to the world that you were washing away not just your old sins but also your interest and commitment to committing new sins. Baptism is the outward evidence of an inward change. Of course in real life, we continue to struggle. God does not suddenly make us perfect in our natural life because the process of dealing with our innate propensity to disobey God must be over come.

Overcomers create their personal success

That is why God applauds the “overcomers.” They have learned to use their new found relationship to the King of kings to fight off temptation. And that does not happen overnight. God’s new life in us is spiritual, and since we cannot see spirits we do not notice the changes in others, and frequently not in ourselves.

God may call you “dead,” which you are in theory, but you are still going through the process of holiness, yes, that is what it is called, that brings you out of the habits of sin and into a life of peace and joy. So Paul can say this:

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Holiness was once a major tenant of the church

I’m willing to bet you haven’t heard this message in church. Modern believers don’t like the idea that they need to clean up their act. Many lose heart as they struggle with addictions – gambling, gossip, time-wasting, apathy, critical spirits, complaining, food and alcohol, and today, worse than all the others, sex.

A group of middle age women I once taught, mostly single, were shocked to learn that after you are saved all forms of sex outside of marriage are a no-no. Some groups applaud their sexual license by forming whole congregations. Do not expect to find any truth told there. That group of women got rid of me post haste. They didn’t want to hear it.

First John says, 1 John 1:8 If we say  that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. A congregation of people involved in open sin, and applauding themselves will have no truth to offer to themselves or to others. It’s delusion.

But this does not tell us why God hides the believers. It is simple. The purpose of the gospel is to draw men to Christ while human beings are drawn to other humans. A person who is a leader upon whom the public showers accolades is often the very person who falls into sin, very publicly.

Tiger Woods used his down time

Being hidden is a form of protection. People do not need to know where you are in God; they need to know where they are! But we push leaders and celebrities and often that brings them into public condemnation. And just as you would expect people will now cut him down for his amazing turnaround, the sorry lot of celebrity status. Tiger’s being away from the public eye for so many years was actually a way for him to be protected and make life changes without interference. Tiger may not be a believer but his case is still an example of being hidden while you focus of making critical changes in your life.

Sin is personal; salvation is personal, and God wants Jesus, his agent of salvation, to be the center of who we are and what we do, not a public display.

Counselors frequently suggest that individuals and married couples have a yearly assessment of their “business plan” – where God is taking them, what needs to be changed, and how they are going to reach those goals. I’ve done this myself recently, I’d advise it for you too.

Explaining Islam – a 3,500 year old Grudge Match

The Bible records important dreams,, including Godly promises.God promised Abram, then childless, that he would be the father of thousands.  Abram got into a royal mess because he took a promise in a dream and tried to make it come true on his own. The temporary and consequently disastrous solution was to have a child through his maid.  That first son was Ishmael now the political religion of Islam.  15 years later the 2nd and  promised son Isaac is born – the real heir.

The Elder Son is Heir

In virtually every society but our own all lands, blessings and rewards go to the eldest son, not the younger Isaac; you see the problem.  Modern day Islam thinks it is entitled to the entire Abrahamic inheritance, especially the land of Israel.  And willing to strap bombs on their children to force the issue.  Islam is avenging itself because of something that happened 3,500 years ago, and the likelihood these people will change their minds is Zero.

Furthermore the land of Canaan goes to Isaac and his descendants, hence the battle over a tiny piece of land no bigger than New Jersey.  And Europe who tried to pretend for decades that it was so magnanimous and egalitarian is now on High Alert. When there are 600,000 million Muslims living large on huge pieces of property in the Middle East why are they fighting over this tiny piece of land?

Not only Islam is caught in this.  We are in no position to congratulate ourselves. Think of all those fabulous Obama-generated dreams we heard years ago, practically free health-care, an end to oil dependence, equality and jobs for all, a veritable utopia of promises, an end to secrecy, earmarks, political paybacks.  Surely anyone over the age of 18 knows there is no free lunch.

Who were we kidding.

 “The heart of man is evil above all things and desperately wicked.”  Jeremiah 17:9  Wherever there is war, confusion, poverty, and self-righteousness there is the delusion about ourselves and our society.

It is incredibly simple.  That is why the problems in Israel dominate the whole world political system – the reason why antisemitism never seems to go away, even in Germany which surely after that disastrous World War II knows better. But that is the international war we are now fighting.

What is Faithfulness

Romans 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Bobby’s mother spent a month that summer buying clothes and talking to him excitedly about the first day of school. He had a smart little blazer, a new Batman lunch box and a drink container and lots of goodies in the backpack. The day finally came. Mother took him to school.

The following morning at 6 a.m. she awakened him for school.

“What,” he said, “not again?”

Yes, Bobby again and again and again. That is what discipline and faithfulness are. The life of faith is doing it every day. You mean I must study the Bible every day? And pray every day? every week?

Right. Salvation is not an event but a walk from the beginning to the end. Of course there are ups and downs, days we think we can’t possibly be a Christian or that the whole thing is impossible. But faith grows as it is exercised like a muscle that gets stronger. Someday believing will not be so hard or demanding.

It is called the bread of life for a reason.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to be faithful and patient with myself when I falter so I can stay the course in life.

The Difference between Sins & Iniquity

Sins are never called mysterious. If someone lies, steals, fornicates, or physically assaults someone it requires only an explanation. But iniquity is mysterious because of the long tendrils of corruption and change it brings about to not just individuals, but families and even societies. If a drunk plows into a school bus killing five children he is sentenced by the court for manslaughter. That is sin and the law defines sins; the law does not define or punish iniquity. Iniquity is God’s word for what happens next, the ripples on the water after a sin is thrown in history.

  • Sins, violations of the laws of God, whether we know them or not.
  • Sin, the innate propensity of man to commit sins.
  • Iniquity, the damage done resulting from others’ sins.

Iniquities are the collateral damage done by sinners to the innocents. In addition to five dead children there are five broken families – the parents, grandparents teachers, classmates, siblings and neighbors – all affected in some way by these deaths, lives that will never be the same. Good may come out of it or evil; many couples who suffer the loss of a child also later divorce. The judge may decide to come down harder on drunk drivers. The drunk’s family experiences changes as well as he is no longer a proper breadwinner or his jail time forces the family on welfare. The judge may be overindulgent and allow him back on the road to cause another crime with the long trail of damaged lives once again. Taxes increase to cover increases in criminal prosecutions.

All Sin has Consequences

It will have an effect of some kind for generations and because those effects are not easily recognized they can be called the mysteries of iniquity. There are few visible signs of iniquities in our world. We have evidence of the good that individuals do. Consider the family of Billy Graham with millions worldwide being blessed and his family following him in productive ministry. God blesses us for the good we do, but those hidden iniquities are still on his books, still making a difference in unseen ways.

Consequences may not show up for a generation

Iniquity is the personal result of a long line of self-indulged sins because sin is not static in one’s life. Sin is like formaldehyde which is used to preserve tissue and cadavers, that is human bodies, from decay. So the sin repeatedly over time locks in the evil in the person making it harder for him (her) to change. Decades of excusing oneself and justifying the behavior hardens the heart and reduces the desire for repentance.

Genes show up in families. The Bach musicians are famous; there are 3 and 4 generations of men in jail, and their girls too, like red hair showing up consistently in the Irish and straight black hair in the Chinese. Like father, like son. Families of doctors or teachers. So we should not be surprised if those same sins pop up in the families of those who are careless about their moral lives. You can rightfully call it a reason but not an excuse.

You cannot call it a real gene however.Attempts to locate a “gay gene have failed. Those family failures are iniquity in action.

Humans do not see their own evil nature

For some reason human beings are not able to see the extent of their behavior, their sins. I sat silently as an old woman “apologized” to her adult daughter for being “too hard” on her as a child. Those words are in quotes because it was hardly an apology and what she did was criminal, drunken beatings and an attempt to kill her. I was a counselor for 7 years and only realized later that so much of what I was hearing was superficial, like this confession, a half-hearted attempt at “getting right with God” but merely inching towards God when hoping God accepts one’s peccadilloes as a gross violation of eternal moral standards for which one must eventually answer to God. Could this woman not see the extent of her sin, or was it so hard, she could not bear it?

Ultimately all change is internal.

Counselors that don’t realize that truth must be internalized will be forever disappointed at their results. The ability of people to justify their sins is incalculable. An old man in Florida was charged with raping an 11-year old, then murdering her and burying her body in the back yard. His excuse? “She wanted me to rape her.” Where does this kind of mental poison come from? Even women who abort their children do not say, “The baby wanted me to kill him? or her? “

Sin is like a gene

Before we are too quick to congratulate ourselves on having not done this look at American society today where all kinds of evil behavior are glossed over, especially sexual adventures called “love” including child sexual trafficking, pornography and other hidden evils. Marches in city streets applaud the murder of babies in the womb calling it a health issue for women. Nonsense.

Child bearing has 10,000 years of success and is not a disease or a health issue, and even a child knows that. And then there is a wild protest when the public refuses to pay for the abortion. Not a word on why someone else should be asked to pay for you to kill your child. Silence about these sins and iniquities is also iniquity.

The severity of the iniquity is determined by the level of the authority of the Doer. King David ordered a census in direct violation of the will of God. As a result many people died.

2 Samuel 24:10 

10 And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

David was in charge of his kingdom and his underlings both in the government and society suffered loss. God gave David a choice of various punishments. David said these prescient words: “Let me not fall into the hands of man.” David knew that men would be harder on him than God.

In contrast when a small child steals an apple negative results are limited because his authority levels are so low involving only one child and one grocer. A “talking to” and a light spanking to remind the child of his sins is about all that is needed.

Sins>iniquity>deception>delusion>death

Sins lead to iniquity which leads to deception which leads to delusion. Only a deluded society would see anything legal about this, if we accept the basis of western law, that is the common law and the Holy Bible. If we accept lawlessness including a public and private anarchy, then this kind of behavior and thinking makes sense. But it also spells the death of a society. So when people say “I want to save my country” this is what they are talking about, the advancing iniquity of a society morally off the rails. That describes today.

Communist China fully believes that given its intense work ethic and one and a half billion citizens in addition to dominating the Pacific Rim the Chinese can also take over the economy of the entire world. This is a pipe dream. And millions of Christians love worrying about it as well. The devil always has us panicky about something doesn’t he? God tells us what to pray and when and sometimes why.

Rule by Fear

Let me explain. Communism is a self-defeating system because it is based on the principle of Rule by Fear. The Chinese people have a great deal of freedom in their own homes but beyond that, society is controlled at virtually every level. And fearful people cannot act as they would like.

Most importantly, opinion is monitored, free speech and freedom of movement are highly valued but not available. These are things we Americans hold so dear:

  • the freedom to own guns
  • a secret ballot
  • freedom to move around the country and change jobs
  • the ability to elect people and even more urgently
  • to also un-elect them when needed
  • a free press, and our press is free to lie, which it does a lot
  • freedom to go to church believing no one will enter your worship service to do you harm.

Freedom rules even if there have been limitations on public actions, such as during wartime. This freedom of choice allows individuals to meet economic and personal goals without interruption from the government.

China has none of these basic freedoms.

This is Rule by Fear, but what the outside observer does not realize is that those who rule by fear are themselves also ruled by fear.

Try to imagine that you are sitting at your computer doing your office work and you decide to send an email to a friend suggesting a particular program because it exposes government corruption. Within a short period of time you learn that someone “out there” has read your email and is coming to your office to question your interest in government corruption.

Yes, this might happen in the USA but the censor would not be the government but your boss, who wants to know why you are using company time for personal email, not that corruption is a problem. Your boss may want to watch that program too.

Censorship is everywhere and uses human capital unwisely

The level of censorship shows the rest of the world the level of fear. You do not monitor speech and emails, or the television and press if you are not covering something up. That means you feel guilt.

Recently President Xi of China (pronounced Shee) said he would remain in charge of the nation until he dies. We westerners call this a dictatorship. Someone should tell Mr. Xi that no person in history has been able to be a total ruler, successfully – that all have come to ruin.

The Chinese do not really believe the rules apply to them. Natural law, by which the western world has lived for 2+ millennia, says “you reap only what you sow,” that “arrogance leads to ruin.”

The Greeks understood government

The Greeks called this hubris and their plays are profiles of individuals whose heads got too big and their own flaws defeated them. Mao ZeDong, the cruel master who nearly destroyed China during the Cultural Revolution, once said that the God of America did not like the Chinese, that he liked the westerners. Mao spoke of going to heaven where a Chinese God, not The Most High God, would be in charge. Mao’s god was geographical, not universal. So Chinese people believe their nation can live by different rules than the rest of us.

Fear of loss of power, prestige and resources

If you are a ruler whose authority is dictatorial and not the product of a free people, of course you are afraid of losing your position, the power, the money and all the ego perks of ruling a society. Each element of censorship and control demonstrates to the observer that you have multiple fears, not just of fear, but of guilt. No one fears except at the point of guilt. The leadership fears the public simply because it already knows at a deep personal level that it is illegitimate.

Guilt causes additional fear

For your fun and enjoyment here is a list of words that if you put them in your speech or letters, emails, etc. you would find the Mind Control People at your door. No matter that you called your brother a Big Head, here they come!

Chinese people are smart and trained scholars. They show their distaste for communism with these code words:

  • shameless (不要脸)
  • go against the tide (倒行逆施)
  • drive backwards (倒车)
  • I oppose (我反对)
  • long live the emperor (吾皇万岁)
  • throughout the ages (千秋万代)
  • rule the world (一统江湖) — The line “throughout the ages, unify and rule the world” (千秋万代, 一统江湖) appears in Jin Yong’s martial arts novels, notably in “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer” (笑傲江湖), a story that has been widely adapted into television series and films. It is often used in adaptations of Jin’s stories as a slogan chanted by followers to show their loyalty to a cult-like leader.

  • ascend the throne (登基)
  • named emperor (称帝)

  • reign title (年号)
  • recover one’s authority (复辟)

That list is a small portion of what the Chinese leaders fear as they monitor their own emails and public speech. Leaders are guilty of slavery and their leaders are big heads. 1984 refers to mind control in the novel by that name. They fear being called Emperor because China has suffered under Emperors. And due to the Asian fear of “losing face” they fear being called shameless; they fear the public going against the tide; they fear being called incapable. And that fear filters down throughout the Communist Party to its workers and managers.

Chairman Mao was a generational failure.

Mao’s disastrous policies cost the Chinese people 50 years of progress; they might well be ahead of America today if things had not been so badly mismanaged. Is this what will happen to Emperor Xi?  Will he forget the lessons of history, that absolute power corrupts absolutely? Will he face decades of underlings in the power structure seeking to do him in, jockeying for position when their career ladder is taken away?

Xi and his comrades will spend a great deal of time and money trying to maintain his own personal safety and the swirl of insurrection around him.  Like Caesar, he may be stabbed in the back in public. And the general public will spend an inordinate amount of time trying to avoid the authorities, covering their tracks, watching what they say and do in public and if things get very bad, also in private.  All this energy takes away from the production of goods and service on which a prosperous economic base rests.  There is no peace in China except for small children.

But as the rule book of life says, “Peace. Peace. And there is no peace for the wicked.”

5 Reasons Why Your Prayers Aren’t Answered

Print Friendly and PDF Naaman needs a healing from leprosy, a disease which eats off your extremities, nose, fingers and toes.  There is no know cure at that time. But he is not a Jew and knows nothing of that religion.  In Old Testament times, people believed that gods were strictly local, that is based on geography. The God of the Israelites however, is God over the whole of creation. Naaman the Syrian does not know this. Even today the Chinese believe that Jesus is white and an “English” God and that there is an “English heaven” where they go separated from a Chinese heaven.
2 King 5: 5 Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper. And the Syrians had gone out on[a] raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She [b]waited on Naaman’s wife. Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.”  So Naaman starts thinking.
Maybe this slave wants me dead. How can I return to Israel and not be slaughtered? I need some advice here.
So he goes to his king and the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”

The letter will allow him safe passage in a foreign land.

So he departed and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. Then he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said, Now be advised, when this letter comes to you, that I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.

Problem Number 1: 

Naaman went to the King of Israel but the servant girl said to go to the prophet. If you go to the wrong person you get the wrong results.

There is no benefit by asking Buddha, who was not god and never pretended to be, or the great sage Confucius of China, or Falun Gong or any human person or system. The God of Israel is the one the prophet speaks for and to. 

The king of Israel jumps to false conclusions and thinks Syria is trying to start another hot war. Fortunately Elisha, the leading prophet in Israel, heard about the soldier’s request and intervened.

So it was, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” Then Naaman went with his horses and chariot, and he stood at the door of Elisha’s house.

10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.”  Naaman is a “big man” and he is being spoken to not by the prophet but some underling!  This is insulting to a man of his stature. This is how he reacts.

Problem Number 2:

Having an ego trip, anger towards God and a hissy fit will not get good results. In fact they block God’s work and will.

11 But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to myself, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’ 12 Are not the [c]Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. 

Naaman thinks the prophet should act and react in another way. Too often we reject the best that God has because we do not recognize that this is His way and we are wrong to expect something else.  Naaman has assumed that because of who he is the process should be different.  God does not regard people’s persons, their status, their money or their assumptions. Anger, in addition, does not motivate God to do something you want. Your need is not why he fills it.  He answers the prayers according to your attitude of gratitude and worship of him, not of yourself or your position.

And Naaman doesn’t like what God has required.  He thinks the water in Israel is inferior. What he does not realize is that the water does not heal Naaman; it is the Lord who does the healing.  But will Naaman get over his hissy fit and obey God?

Naaman’s servants say something like this. “Look Master, we’ve traveled a thousand miles to see this prophet. Can’t you go back and do what he says?” 

13 And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”

Problem Number 3:

Partial obedience.  Naaman could have dipped in the waters once or twice and thought he’d done all that was necessary.  It is easy to do something half easy when God is involved and think you have been obedient. Well, half a loaf is better than none. In God’s case no.  A half loaf is just that – a half loaf.

 14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

We are relieved to learn Naaman has done what he was told. He was healed because of his act of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. So dipping 7 times in the waters were acts of faith.  Maybe your act of faith must be repeated seven times as well.  Frequently we do not get our prayer answered the first time around. Naaman is not finished learning his lesson.

Problem Number 4:

You do not buy the favor of God. 15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, “Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.”

16 But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive nothing.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

The gifts of God are not for sale.  Of course Elisha needs income.  Everyone does. But payment for services rendered is not part of God’s kingdom.

Elisha goes on: 16 But he said, As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive nothing.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

We think we are done with this story but Naaman hasn’t finished with his lesson.

17 So Naaman said, “Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the Lord18 Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing.”
19 Then he said to him, “Go in peace.” So he departed from him a short distance.
This is an interesting passage. Naaman recognizes that when he goes into a false god’s altar it might be misconstrued that he was there worshiping as well with his boss. Elisha sees that Naaman’s heart is right towards God and encourages him.  In modern times Christians often must work for companies which have unrighteous practices but we know that God knows our hearts – that we are not taking part.  I had a friend long ago who quit a major Fortune 500 company that had drunken parties and felt he could no longer stay. If God tells you to go, then do it.  But you might also be there to stay for some other purpose He has for you. Now Naaman faces another test, but not his test but Gehazi’s test. Naaman was not raised in the Jewish culture. He does not know Old Testament law, so he is not accountable for it. But Gehazi does.
20 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he brought; but as the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.” 21 So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?”
22 And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Indeed, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the mountains of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.’ ”

(Gehazi is lying.)

23 So Naaman said, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and handed them to two of his servants; and they carried them on ahead of him. 24 When he came to [d]the citadel, he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house; then he let the men go, and they departed. 

Two talents is a huge pile of money. Naaman is innocent.  If you are innocent of the laws of God you are not held accountable. Jesus said, “Where there is no law there is no transgression.” When the law is known there is sin and you are accountable, as is Gehazi, who now plays dumb.

25 Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you go, Gehazi?”
And he said, “Your servant did not go anywhere.”
26 Then he said to him, “Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants?

Elisha has a gift which showed him what Gehazi did; in the New Testament this is called the Gift of Knowledge. And he also knows what punishment God will enact which is called the Gift of Wisdom.

Problem Number 5:

Your prayers are not answered when your motives are wrong.  If Gehazi needed a raise, a promotion or a transfer he was supposed to get it from God, not mooch off someone else’s ministry, and that with deception.

There are different levels of accountability according to what you know. Naaman is judged as a foreigner who does not know the laws of God but acts righteously given the little he does know.  Gehazi however is in the ministry and held to a higher standard and he and his family are cursed forever for greed and lust of power.
