Will Solomon Kill the Methodist Baby?

King Solomon was asked to decide what to do about two prostitutes who were arguing over a baby. One of them had rolled over in the middle of the night and killed the child. Solomon, not knowing which was the genuine mother, suggested that he slice the living baby in half. The real mother quickly said, “No let her have the whole baby.”

Two Methodist Groups talk split

The news tells us that the Methodist church is facing a division. Falsely reported as a disagreement over equality, it is actually a long coming argument over the core of the church, the scriptures – are they the infallible guide to life and practice or just “good ideas” and “nice suggestions.” Is God’s word going to rule, or man’s?

Jesus predicted this

He said, ”  And so your tradition empties the commandment of God of all its meaning. You hypocrites! Isaiah describes you beautifully when he said: ‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. And in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men’.” Matthew 15:6

Methodists lost 50 million members in the 20th century because the charismatic movement took hold. Old time members thought this would drain the church of members if they tolerated this new move; but the reverse happened, the charismatics were the ones with the money and they left.

So today we have the divisions remaining – whether Methodist is Biblical or Secular in its core. One wants the Bible to rule rather than the word of Man; the other wants the word of man to rule. And the LGBT community has no DNA to endorse that their idea that homosexuality is given at birth so it cannot find verification in science which both groups would accept as a valid premise.

The Bible is unequivocal about sin

Meanwhile, the Bible is clear on this subject; all sexual deviance is sin. Sin is a given in man’s condition, but the whole purpose of salvation is to compensate for the sin in man and provide him a way to enter heaven. It does not guarantee a sinless life; only a saved one. But it does mean you, not he, will change, or will decide to change. God doesn’t zap people from heaven to change their future; each of us must make a decision and follow a process.

The other half has promoted a “big tent” for years and has for the most part rejected the absolute nature of the scriptures as the mind of God, until now. The issue has been roiling below the surface for years.

God is not into the Status Quo

This is what happens when you won’t move on. God does not endorse the status quo with churches any more than life in general. “I am the Lord,” He says, “I change not.” Which means that if you want progress, revelation and the blessings that progress brings you, not He, will change. That goes for people, churches, institutions, colleges, politicians, and businesses. The secular world knows this; the church is coming late to the game.

God’s word applies right now

I woke up this morning remembering an event from 1969. I was substitute teaching at a high school when a girl complained that a boy had taken her pencil. She wanted it back. I took the pencil and suggested I break it in half so each could have a piece. She said quickly, “Oh, let him have it.”

I returned the pencil to her and turned back to my desk. No one who owns something of value wants it split in two, even a lowly pencil. I wondered if that pair, today, 50 years later ever realized I had patterned that event after a Bible story. Those students would be in their middle 60s now. Do they remember?

God put His word out there for us to remember when the time comes that He does not change, either Himself or His word. God’s words are condemned as being old, but look how it applied in real life as it does over and over. When He said, “The grass withers and the flower fades, but the Word of our God abides forever,” He meant it.

How will Jesus Return

The Bible is quite specific on how Jesus will return.  He Himself said He would return in the clouds of heaven. In the book of Acts right before His accession into heaven the angels spoke to his disciples and said He would return just as He left, in a cloud.

Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

This seems pretty straight forward, but there is something we miss.  What or who are the clouds?

Matthew 26:64  Hereafter shall ye (King James for you’all) see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

We have a choice here.  We might assume this means clouds from the first heaven, the atmosphere around the earth.  But assumptions lead us astray. That would make sense only if Jesus were going to the moon or maybe Mars, but he is going to the heaven of His father.

The clouds of heaven are defined in the book of Hebrews.

Hebrews 12:1 we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

In other words, clouds are the witnesses (us) those who have died and are in heaven.  This is the makeup of the cloud that both received Jesus at the on resurrection Sunday and also “saints” who will come back with Him.  The first cloud was made up of Abraham, David and all the luminaries of the Old Testament.

The next cloud appearance will be of those, perhaps including you and me, to come back to earth with Him.  If you are Holy Spirit filled and under the Covenant of God, it is your privilege to return with Him.jesus-returns

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

At that time Jesus will not be coming as a lamb, but as an angry lion, prepared to require final judgment on a world gone bad.  And that is a day we all wish to see, whether now or in the years to come.

In conclusion:  Jesus is coming for believers, not unbelievers and many will not be going with him.  When this happens is the main issue. We do not know when, just we have His promise that it will happen.

Then we shall see no separation between heaven and earth.  That is our final hope and destination.

What We Try to Do Here

Christianity is not a brainless, wild and woolly faith. I never thumped a Bible – who needs to?

After nine years of writing, I learn my readers are primarily that 30% of Americans who don’t go to church, or wish they had something more, yuppies and the discontented. God knows your questions and He has answers. My job is to find them and send them off to you. I hope this makes good sense to you, because He said, “Come, let’s reason together.”

It is reasonable, and then exciting and then, literally out of this world. Join the fun.

The Multiverse of the Individual

The once popular notion that ontogeny recapitulated phylogeny, which claimed that embryos can predict future development, is no more scientifically valid but I see an interesting application of this to how we understand Jesus from the most basic “I never heard of Him” to the Kingdom-active life of a completely committed believer.cropped-picture-of-jesus.jpg

God’s people began ignorant

The apostles (disciples) were, just as we are, completely ignorant about who Jesus really was, and what his program and purpose on earth might be.  They started out believing, because they were part and parcel of his activities, that he was a nice man with special God-given powers.  When he died they scattered not because they were disloyal but because they thought he was like other men, the way any person who recognizes that his hero is dead and he needs to find another hero, another leader.

A dead Jesus is better than a living one

Obama’s Children’s Crusade – compare 1212 A.D.

The Children’s Crusades were endorsed by the failing Roman Catholic Church to boost its sorry ratings. The black plague was raging for over a century in various places. Nearly 25% of Europe and in some places even higher percentages died in spite of pricey priestly prayers.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2014/06/obamas_childrens_crusade_comments.html

Enter Obama’s failing presidency with every age and voter group, even blacks, and he needs something to boost his image. Just like the Children’s Crusade debacle, it’s all backfired. The sacrificial lambs are now languishing in barracks with scabies and TB. Drug dealers may be evil but they’re not stupid, entering with machine guns along with hundreds of pounds of drugs so far confiscated thanks to an aggressive Texas governor’s National Guard.

In 1212 many of the kid-crusaders died on ships, worked to death or starved, or kept as slaves for the sex trade. Ugly business then as now. Americans may have endorsed abortion but they still don’t like people killing live humans or using them as pawns in a deadly political scheme.

Jesus has a Sense of Humor

My old friend Kirby said when she sat down for her Bible and prayer time she always asked Jesus to join her. One day He said, “I would if I had a place to sit.” Kirby was not much of a housekeeper and every chair and table was covered with books, clothes, and papers. After that she always cleared off a chair for him, although it got stuffed up with junk between times.

A teenager once reported that she cried to Jesus after she got the baptism in the Holy Spirit and spoke her tongues.  The leaders asked her to leave her church. “Don’t worry, honey” Jesus replied,” They don’t want me there either.”

Several years ago one of my best friends died. It was not a surprise but it was still a loss. I sat on the corner of the bed and said, I could be in heaven with Jackie singing gospel songs and having a good time. Then I heard quickly but audibly, “Don’t be in such a rush!”

Most people don’t know a Jesus as a person like that. Stuffed shirts such as the leaders of the Temple could not know God personally because they were too focused on serving God, on what they were doing and their own opinions. Jesus, who was God in the flesh, they treated either with contempt or fear. But the guys at Oktoberfest got along with Him just fine. Jesus doesn’t fold at the sight of a glass of beer.

Being real about oneself is the 1st step to intimacy with the Lord. Yes, He is Lord, and yes He died for us, and yes, He is coming again in great power. But for now, He also said, I call you friends.

John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends.

That is the Jesus we need to know, and how He wants to know us.

Depression and the Case for Mental Discipline

People who live in the past are depressed and people who live in the future (like Rapture buffs) are angry and frustrated; I have friends like this. The Bible says live in the present taking orders from the Lord. I’ve had bouts of depression and I believe all people do because we cannot turn our minds off.  The weight of the world is not your business; you can’t fix everything.  Sometimes you can’t fix anything. Speculation goes no where, keeping you busy and unproductive. The answer to depression (or any other question) in this blog is always from one standpoint – what does God think?

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Man is made up of 3 parts – spirit, soul and body.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Notice the order of the words.

The spirit is intended to control the soul (think, feel, decide) and the soul is to control the body. The spirit is from God and is NOT the soul, a frequent error in dictionaries. If this pattern is observed the patient (person) is of sound mind.

Your brain is a muscle you can control

When either the body or the soul takes over there is an imbalance, hence the church steps in and says that salvation is the way. Because the heavenly truth is not visible, many people miss it for a long time, but it is always there. I am not preaching here, just the facts, ma’m.

The excessive hopelessness (soul part) leads to suicide. The answer for you is to control your mind.

Control your Mind

This is not a Pollyanna thing. It is a direct effort on your part to decide, deliberately and purposefully to think on something else. You can kill yourself with “what ifs” over rejection, and failure, and other useless speculation. People who have fought this mental battle turn on classical music (even if they don’t particularly like it) or read something on a totally different subject, or play a challenging game (not simple checkers) or exercise. My cure is Bible reading; the modern versions are easy and fun to read.

Negative thoughts are easy

Every unsolvable problem, and you cannot prevent the suicide of another person, becomes larger the more it is unwisely contemplated. Prayer helps, but nothing is sure fire because each person makes his/her own way in life.

Uneducated people try to solve their mental issues with drink, parties, sex, even crime. I worked with inmates for many years and they sought excitement to deal with their sense of failure and worthlessness. Educated people should have mental discipline but when it comes to emotional collapse they do what everyone else does.

Being positive takes effort

Multiple marriages or affairs is a favorite of men. Women will over work or pressure others emotionally. If you are a sufferer of depression, work out your own salvation with mental discipline. Continued use of substitutes, like drugs, leads no where.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Why Study History

Throughout history governments and individuals either succeed or fail due to how well or how poorly they manage the levels of power between them. So the smart student who does not want a pile of work studies history because it continues to repeat itself. They need only memorize the names of the leaders and their various nations and data which changes from decade to decade. Some smart math student could create an algorithm to show at what point this never ending conflict will move in a different direction. History does not know the word status quo.

Governments limit individuals, and individuals seek more liberty.

This is the conflict in a nutshell, balancing the strength of the individual and the long arm of the government. When there is no balance, the nation is out of whack. Every bureaucracy withdraws some liberty from the individual which does not make it wrong, unless it is too much liberty being given up or it was confiscated. The arguments against socialism include this quote from Ben Franklin,  “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Liberty lost is very hard to regain.

Every political contest involves these two elements

History shows this clearly. The lone cave dwelling human and his family is a government at the lowest level, but for any progress to be maintained, warfare against a predatory neighbor requires that these family units gather together to form a mutually advantageous group. To do this requires that each person give up to the group some authority, power, and of course money and resources. It requires a leadership team as well. If the team or the leader becomes too strong the society stagnates; if the enemies gain ascendancy, the society breaks up. So the larger the governmental unit, or the more prosperous in the case of the USA, the stronger that group is.

A closed society stays that way

For smaller societies constant mismanagement of resources and unrest keep it in failure mode. Afghanistan has been involved in war for 60 years and is going nowhere. They cannot or will not negotiate a balance between the bureaucracy and the individuals in spite of considerable involvement from other nations, both for good and for ill. It was illegal to teach women for example. The USA forces repeated efforts to stop that and start schools for girls met with guns and knives. This is in spite of well-documented proof that children raised by educated women are more successful than those who are not. But then today’s men would need to be educated before they would know that wouldn’t they? So a closed society stays that way, forever in poverty, isolated and legitimately afraid of their neighbors.

Participatory democracy balances interests

Governments that function best keep this in mind which is why participatory democracy works so much better. When people take part in their government they can cut it down when it gets out of hand. That explains the election President Trump and Boris Johnson.

Today institutions are under fire

Other nations are also seeing their citizens rebel against bureaucratic intrusion. The European Union might be blaming other nations for their inertia but their own institutional bias caused these problems. Some economic prophets say the EU will eventually end, or there will be European anarchy. It all depends on whether leadership comes to the fore to negotiate a peace. Today, 2019, across the planet citizens are increasingly resisting government intrusion and laws.

People locked into institutional mindsets scoff at the “populists” and right wing labels for everything they do not like but when you scrape away the paint, you find it is the age-old conflict between individuals and institutions. In Venezuela the bureaucracy and the army stayed put, and the population left. They became refugees to other nations. In Syria, the government simply bombed the citizens who questioned its behavior. The nation is a pile of rubble today. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia are in a standoff but both nations thought they could embrace and calcify the past. Can’t be done. Time marches on with or without you.

Literature confirms history

This is not new. The Greek drama Antigone (circa 440 B.C.E.) covers the same turf. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet shows how private lives were damaged by cultural considerations, which describes much of European history. The USA has managed to keep individualism front and center even though is has gone to extremes. For example, there is no scientific basis for gender reassignment and this will eventually collapse. It is individualism run amok. When individualism gets out of hand it is called anarchy which degenerates into civil war.

Imperialism is a form of war

Roman Imperialism, British Imperialism, Soviet Imperialism and now Chinese Imperialism all began as economic adventures and developed into chattel societies. All but the Chinese variety is gone, and even that is being tested.

The Pacific Rim is tired of being used; Vietnam was the first communist government to resist the long arm of Chinese presumption. Now Hong Kong is conducting its own, largely successful protest. Of course there are thugs and hooligans involved in all these conflicts because those loners just love a fight, but underneath there is real angst which must be corrected. The individual has suffered too long. The pendulum will swing back but today it is all about war against institutions.

Why History is superior

In my experience there is nothing scientific about Political Science. Politics is often called an art because the individuals must balance the competing interests of diverse and often intractable participants. The Bureaucracy Loving among us do not realize how difficult this is because they conceive as governments having always the bayonet to make their word stick. Individuals have no weapons but they have a voice. The Baltic States won their freedom in the 1990s by singing! They sang in unison and the Soviet masters were too cowed to take them on in spite of their tanks, guns and bayonets.

Investigations of corruption

Currently in the United States the hubris of the Washington Bureaucracy is increasingly under investigation – the CIA, the FBI and the DOJ all involved in an attempt to overthrow the presidency of Donald Trump. The evidence is mounting. Nervous journalists are wondering whether they can personally afford to touch this. Will it mean an end to their career? They could be too close to the bureaucracy and endanger their jobs.

You see how this works. The Deep State is an example of how institutions become enemies of their own governments and people. Many nations do not have corrective options in place. Because of American diversity and freedoms we can handle this kind of corruption, in spite of it taking a great deal of time.

The Prince of Peace

Finally, this blog is about the Mind of God. The Greek plays predate Christianity, so it is not a religious issue, unless you believe the government is God, and some do; or perhaps you believe each individual is god, and that happens as well.

The Bible clears this conflict up for the individual. In the world of the God directed person, God is the government. He makes the decisions based on an omniscient mind and directs the person in the way he or she should go. It is a tricky little dance to keep oneself in the will of God and skirt or affect as the case may be the world and its Institutional vs. Individual war. It means living in the multiverse of the spiritual about which I will have much to say in the future.

Why America is Exceptional

The United States has a long arm of influence on the world and that makes it exceptional. Many other nations influenced world history -Russia, China, Great Britain – but those changes were largely external and involved government and trade. America has fostered internal changes, the way business and industry work, the way people live and interact. These are the changes we rarely see.

Americans are publically accused and blamed

Americans are blamed and hated because of their involvement with so many nations, accused of imperialism and narcissism and whatever ill is presently sticking in the craw of a foreigner. But what happened with America is that after World War II it found itself is the position of being a world leader. It was not so prior to that war. Yes, everyone wanted to visit here, but they had no day-to-day involvement with Americans.

Americans interacted internationally

England stopped slavery before the Americans did. But the Americans changed the whole world when it comes to slavery. Britain was able to end slavery because of the zealous voice of Wilberforce a wealthy man who sat in Parliament. But this did not change the rest of the world.

But because of a world war, and the ensuing war in Korea, people around the world came to know Americans, first as soldiers and then as just people. And they wanted to copy that kind of life and the American way of looking at the world. The word America comes from a Latin word meaning “friend” and most people found Americans to be friends, non-judgmental, resilient, happy and open to new ideas. And they wanted to be like that.

Americans act differently

Then they noticed that Americans did things differently. Women were educated; this was uncommon in many places across the world. Even today 23% of the world is illiterate. Women cut their hair, wore pants and short skirts, rode motorcycles, bought cars, and even single women bought houses. The changing status of women has had world wide influence.

Americans had a service for people who were sick, or in an emergency where you needed to go to a hospital or a victim in an auto accident. A big van filled with emergency equipment drove to where you were to help. When I lived in the Philippines during the 1990s Filipinos were astonished at the TV program Rescue 911. You could just call and people would help you. That was a time when 12 million Filipinos were living on the street with no help for anything. No wonder they all wanted to come to America!

American generosity extends even to animals

Americans for the most part treat their animals well, and those that abuse them are held in contempt. In much of the world an animal hospital is unheard of. They either eat animals, abuse them or ignore them.

The same with children. Americans have programs across the globe eliminating sex traffickers and sex slaves. Yes, some American entrepreneurs make big money off this but even more are fighting this kind of abuse of children, of both sexes.

Americans have music, and choices

There are hundreds of types of local music across the world but in America you find every single one and more. America is the birthplace of jazz, and every conceivable variety of music can be heard online, at concerts, in churches, in elevators! In foreign countries you find only a few choices. Foreigners have picked up on this with flash mobs, videos, and YouTube posts of every kind of music. Come one, come all.

Americans exported their values in law and order

In Hong Kong this month protesters are waving American flags. Some think we are behind the unrest there but we are not. That flag is just an indication that Hong Kong young people want an American type democracy. They recognize that Americans who study in Hong Kong are happy; they have personal goals, they speak about their government freely, and they worship freely. It is a disease they catch – this disease of personal liberty. And the Chinese kids are smart. Their parents insist upon it, so it is born of real thought and focus.

That is why we can say America is exceptional. Everybody across the globe may do it one way; we are the exception.

Slaughter of Babies – A Sign of Momentous Change

Print Friendly and PDF

How do I know this?

After Joseph died as Chief Magistrate of Egypt there came to power a Pharaoh who had no regard for the Jews. He commanded:

Exodus 1:22 all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”

Exodus 2:1 -2 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child (Moses), she hid him three months.

Moses is saved by the Pharaoh’s daughter and about 40 years later he returned to Egypt where he obeyed God and engineered the salvation of Israel from slavery and hailed as the revered savior of Israel.

Over a thousand years later Jesus is born in Bethlehem. When the King in Israel hears about another “King” being born, jealous and fearing loss of his power, he kills a large group of babies. History does repeat itself.

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

18 “A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more.”

I was once told Jews believe the number was 6,000 baby boys.

Now, 2000+ years have passed and massive numbers of Muslim and Christian babies are being slaughtered in Syria, Iraq and in the Kurdish region, by Hamas using children as human shields, and when they can get away with it, even in Israel.

One Child Policy is morphing around the globe

Across the planet it is girl babies being aborted because male children are better at earning money to pay for one’s parent’s old age.  This practice fails to consider that it will take an adequate number of females to provide children for those males. In some areas of China which has the largest gap between male and female populations there are fights over access to women.

This is especially problematic in China where a Chinese man is expected to marry a Chinese woman. But women are smart enough to know they do not want to be regarded as a “brood mare” for society. Many educated Chinese women now simply eschew marriage altogether making the situation worse. Three of my Chinese co-workers were forced into marriage by panicky parents.

In the USA females are thriving and male children are decaying of neglect, inadequate education and preparation for adulthood because of fatherlessness. Both males and females are dying of drug overdoses caused by a number of factors, including greedy doctors and manufacturers, and this generation’s desire to avoid pain in any form and firmly believe there is no afterlife to prepare for.

World views produce governmental systems

Two forms of atheism lead to this indifference. True atheism believes that there is no afterlife; we are natural beings only. We are born, live and die, like animals and that is the end of the story.

Then there is practical atheism which recognizes all of the above but also sees no responsibility or accountability involved in being alive. Both lead to inertia and wasted lives.

Both forms lean towards socialistic societies which gives the government the authority to rule the private citizen so we now have worldwide an interest in socialism as a cure for the evils of society which the indifferent will embrace.  Both forms are essentially deterministic which allows the believer to enjoy blissful if erroneous inner peace. There is great satisfaction is saying evil does not exist, or it cannot touch me, and it doesn’t matter in the end anyway. An illusion like that can take over your whole mind and personality, a euphoric psychosis if you like demanding nothing but acquiescence.

Democratic systems, when parliamentary or representative, monarchies or theocracies all have inherent demands on the citizen which the worry-free-isms do not.

Bad theology, and that is what all this is, can somehow miss killing the infant in the womb and then through the generation of nonsense-happiness kill the rest of someone’s life. This is a society without a future.

Beheading – A Symbol for the pan-Islamic Plan

A metaphor is “representative or symbolic of something else, especially something abstract.” Life illustrates theology.

https://www.theepochtimes.com/james-wright-foley-american-journalist-beheaded-in-new-isis-video-titled-message-to-america-breaking-news_892109.html

To the luckless journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, it can hardly be called abstract – it is the reality of a lost head, but symbolically it tells the tale of a dangerous, demonically inspired political system that plans to behead all those nations which disagree with its evil theology. It is a planetary warning to especially Americans, as the keeper of the international purse strings, but also China and all Europe down to tiny little Belize. Even Australia, which has some hope of being isolated, is on guard, full tilt.

These barbarians will tolerate nothing less than full cooperation of every nation, every leader, and more importantly every kind of money in every pocket, a hell on earth.

Symbolism is a Multiverse

Shrouded in dark flowing robes (another metaphor) that cover the face and thus every intention as well the dark hidden truth say they cannot “face” us. They want your head – the head of your family, the head of your government. Their mind is now your mind. People are things. “We slice infants in half. Obey or die.” Symbols expose a reality we may not want revealed.

The Goal – You get a new head

The United States already had a headless leader, President Obama, who thinks that to deny reality will make it go away. He has been reading too much Alice in Wonderland, like the half visible grinning cat in a tree, uninvolved. The Islamic State, he says, is not Islamic which ironically they put it in their name. This is another version of asking what “ISIS is.” Really?

Furthermore, the president calls it ISIL which is a much larger territory than ISIS. ISIL encompasses parts of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and a place called Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East.

Air strikes can win the day, he says, while 31,000 ISIS soldiers wonder how a drone can do all that – since they can just run like so many roaches to another Islamic hideout and wait for the drones to drone on by. And he says, ISIS is not Islamic.

The head that has fallen to the ground is all religions but Islam. If it were not so, wouldn’t Islamic nations such a Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and all countries ending in -Stan, come against this scheming cabal? But instead they let American guns and money fight their intra-Islamic battles.

As we settle their quarrels we elevate Saudi Arabia to take over the Islamic world domination program while hardly lifting a finger. If we let them play this game we are as headless as Leaders-From-Behind.

News media – also headless

Beheading tells us who they are and what their plans are. The head is no longer our God but theirs – Allah, an ancient god of war, celebrates death. Our Western God is for life. It is also a metaphor for what has happened to the America news media. They lost their head years ago and now are scurrying around looking for the lost stories of the past 7 years.

Deut 30:19 I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

We are in the valley of decision. Israel has made its decision. They said- we didn’t fight in Germany to the death, but we will now.

What will we decide?

How to Explain Death to a Child

I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me.

All men fear death, (Hebrews 2:15) so your job as a parent is to show your child a non-scary way of looking at death, especially if someone in your family dies and explaining it becomes an issue.

Find a toy truck and a toy automobile to demonstrate. If you have a light souce you can set up so much the better.

Here is what you can say.

“Do you remember how when we go on a road trip we have to pass big trucks that are going slower than we are? Do you remember when we passed on the side away from the sun that a giant shadow fell on our car? But we did not fear because we could see the road ahead. Very soon we were back in the sunlight and the shadow was gone.

Well that is what death is like. It is only a shadow. And passing from here to there is simple and uncomplicated. God is on the other side waiting for us.

Of course we don’t want you going there any day soon. That is also God’s choice.”

That is why we live in faith, and with faith. If we have accepted Jesus and know He is our savior. He is waiting on the other side.truck shadow

This illustration comes from Dr Donald Grey Barnhouse (d.1960)

He said, “Children, would you rather be run over by a truck, or by its shadow?” The children said, “Well, of course Dad, we’d much rather be run over by the shadow! That can’t hurt us at all.” Dr. Barnhouse said, “Did you know that two thousand years ago the truck of death ran over the Lord Jesus in order that only its shadow might run over us?”

Children Deserve the Truth

Print Friendly and PDF

Speaking the truth about race is not racist. It can be repeated for racist reasons if there is malice in someone’s heart. But truth itself is neutral. Lies in the other had always have some corrupted motive behind them, a purpose to keep you from truth.

Lies have sticky feet in the mind

There is no defense against the truth, says scripture. But lies always have a defense, and of course that is the truth. But since the public presence of lies is greater than the activity of truth, we must be extra careful what we believe, what we repeat and what we hear and read and from whom. Lies are aggressive in getting out there into the public. Once established in the mind a lie is terribly hard to dislodge.

Children suffer the most from lies

Children often believe well into their old age that they caused their parents divorce – they were too much trouble, they cost too much, they had been bad. This especially plagues the very small children who have no adult reference points to examine. Children hear enough of guilt without adding to it and they know nothing of legal action, physical problems, emotional or mental illness, or social and political forces beyond their world. Even when you minister peace to them they can retain that nagging feeling that you are just being “nice” and trying to make them feel better.

Saying I don’t know is better than wrong answers

Deception, which are lies in fancy dress, is worse Fifty years ago parents might say a baby would be brought by the stork, instead of a full description of procreation. Not a good idea. You can say instead, “God sends babies to families” and be done with it. It has the added benefit of telling the child s/he was probably wanted. You can then suggest the child ask God how he pulls that off and the kid will probably forget the whole thing and move on. They have a short attention span. Deception muddies the idea of science and reality. If anything is real, science is even though it is often misinterpreted.

Keeping truth inside boundaries

You should find out why the child is asking, or what, before you jump into a long discussion.

Tommy: Dad: Where did I come from?

Dad: (worried that he will need to describe the birds and the bees) That would take a long time. What do you want to know?

Tommy: Johnny Wilson just moved. He says he comes from Texas. I just wondered where I came from.

Dad: You were born in Ohio.

We have a tendency to either offer too much information or too little. Focus on what the child really wants to know and why. And then use it to instruct.

You can then say, “That is a good way to get to know other kids. You can always ask them where they were born.” Parents are so busy with multitasking they let opportunities for instruction go by. Many children have trouble making friends- and the ones who don’t need no instruction.

The little girl who is scared of a spider, and yes, reassure her that they don’t belong in the house, can be asked to look up this spider on the Internet and find out what nice things it does for the environment. This way unimportant foolish kids’ questions and fears can be turned into parenting victories.

And please, never tell your kid a question is stupid. You can be sure they’ll never ask you to answer a question again, and who knows where they’ll go for another answer.

God Speaks Through Events

A preacher in Texas says people want prophecy. Prophecy is God talking to us through events. Well – it is all around us.

For example, July 2019, all lights out in New York City. Billboards in Times Square, Broadway dark, folks trapped in subways & elevators, no air conditioning. The message? New Yorkers are spiritually without light. Shine some truth on your lives.

And it’s not just New York City that’s experienced unexpected blackouts recently. Cities and towns from coast to coast have gone dark. Within just 45 days in the summer of 2019, millions of Americans were impacted by blackouts.

June 8… more than 20,000 people in Northern California had their power shut off by the state’s largest utility as a “fire safety precaution.”

June 9… 350,000 people lost power in Dallas, TX after severe thunderstorms rolled through the region.

Storms, hurricanes and floods

July 19-20… more than 277,000 people saw their power disrupted throughout Wisconsin from thunderstorms, tornadoes and floods.

High winds

July 19… 600,000 to 800,000 people lost power in Michigan as the result of storms and high winds. Some were without power for 6 days. Flint, Michigan also had contaminated water for a long time and many became ill. Water stands for the word of God, as well as Jesus, who is the word made flesh. Flint residents might start reading the Bible for some fresh water.

July 22-26… over 300,000 people had their homes go dark in New Jersey due to powerful storms.

July 27… nearly 40,000 people lost power in Washington, D.C. The cause is still being investigated. Of course these things are caused naturally but they have spiritual meaning Here is what God is saying:

Your power source is wrong, the grid has been neglected. I, God am your power source, and the consequence is you’all are living in the dark.

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

Another prophecy which means God is talking to us is through events. In San Franciscans they walk through feces encrusted streets. People, you live in a toilet bowl. Is this what you really want? This prophetic process is very simple.

The Old Testament is filled with references to God manipulating the weather as a lesson in disobedience. He includes the non-Jewish nations as well. Here is a sample from The Message written in street language.

Nahum 1:2-6 The Message (MSG)

2-6 God is serious business.
    He won’t be trifled with.
He avenges his foes.
He stands up against his enemies, fierce and raging.
But God doesn’t lose his temper.
    He’s powerful, but it’s a patient power.
Still, no one gets by with anything.
    Sooner or later, everyone pays.
Tornadoes and hurricanes
are the wake of his passage,
Storm clouds are the dust
    he shakes off his feet.
He yells at the sea: It dries up.
    All the rivers run dry.
The Bashan and Carmel mountains shrivel,
    the Lebanon orchards shrivel.
Mountains quake in their roots,
    hills dissolve into mud flats.
Earth shakes in fear of God.
The whole world’s in a panic.
Who can face such towering anger?
Who can stand up to this fierce rage?
His anger spills out like a river of lava,
    his fury shatters boulders.

Some preachers say the Old Testament is of little use, but God says, “My word abides forever.” (Isaiah 40:8) Not to be taken lightly.

Let’s Start Rethinking about Political Campaigns

Print Friendly and PDF

Years ago God gave me a task – show people how to rethink, in my case, about the Bible, its contents and especially the nature and goals of God himself. I’ve done that now ten years. Today, 9/2019, I am reaching over 30,000 people a month, always rethinking in every question especially in secular ones where there is just as much confusion as in theological.

People do not know how to think

Here is an example. Recently we voted in a nationally recognized, wildly expensive campaign for Congress, the 9th Congressional District of North Carolina. The campaign was carried out in public, on television, mostly ads and news stories that were often very biased, no matter who was speaking. Social media was awash with it as well since it was a special election and few others running at least locally.

Bad law comes out of emotion

The campaign was designed to prevent the voter from thinking, or to replace his thoughts with emotions upon which no decisions are usually very good – and certainly not in politics. There are already too many laws based on temporary emotions which can change over night.

The Democrat was a typical Republican candidate – a successful entrepreneur, a business owner/employer, clean cut family man with a pretty blonde wife and two kids, a military veteran who supports lower taxes, and who managed never to call his opponent names which is sign of a honorable politician. But he lost.

Why? Here is the problem to rethink. While he was the better candidate which his campaign demonstrated, he was not running for the office of campaigner; he was running for a seat in Congress. The voters did not want a Democrat representing them, no matter how clean cut or conservative in nature. The national party at the present time does not reflect the mind of the voters in this jurisdiction. Sometime in the future, that may change. But just not today.

The voters got it right

The voters knew this and acted accordingly. But the campaign process ignores this need. The voters got it right in spite of the advertising and blather all around the campaign, not to mention the multi-millions in funds which came from across the land, all intent on electing a Campaigner not a Congressman.

We choose representatives not candidates

There is something very wrong with a political system that presents candidates when what we want is representatives. The man who won will reflect the mind of the voter when he goes to Washington DC, no matter how flawed he might be personally. He was not young and vigorous; he did have a pretty wife but who cares about the wife anyway. We are not voting for her. And she is not representing us. This man’s policies, and that of the people he will join with in Washington, not his personality or all the beautiful color photographs mean anything as he assumes his post.

What we vote for must be based on reality

What the voter needs is the assurance that the person holding the office will be able to reflect the will of the people, not the platform of a party or a group of lobbyists somewhere, in this case, 500 miles away. How can we change the campaign process to make it radically less expensive and more in tune with what voters needs to know? Will this man or woman do in the office they hold what I expect of them and what they have promised? This is going to be a hard issue to solve.

Church campaigns have the same flaws

And as a theologian I can also say that church membership presentations are also often off point. Who God is and what he does as Jesus Christ in the world today is the core of Christianity but you would not necessarily know this from church services or their advertisements or television programs. Thankfully there are many varieties of them reaching diverse people. This is healthy.

We choose our religion based on personal needs

Individuals attach themselves to religious systems based on private needs. Some want family, friends and social acceptance; others seek inner peace and assurance. Others are concerned with the world and its dysfunctions and they view the church in its mission. My daughter-in-law wants a choir, with robes. I agree with her but so many of the modern churches do not have this anymore. Singles need church dinners and fellowship events. People in wheel chairs need to see no curbs or stairs; parents want good child care with honest teaching about the gospel and no Easter Rabbit theology where God is missing altogether.

The truth is offensive

Churches may meet all of these needs but still have no honest gospel to present, filled with compromise in order “not to offend anyone.” The gospel is offensive. Jesus said, Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Is Jesus picking a fight? Sounds like it.

But no, He is saying that we are happy when we are with people where we feel comfortable but the truth of God is ultimately in what God said in His word about our condition and his solutions. Confusing Church with Faith can lead us into a position of comfort that is not realistic. Real faith will cause us to be separated from some people, systems and places.

God is pro-active about us. We need to be proactive about Him. We need to be as careful about our vote for religion as we are for our representatives.
