Israel and the 21th Century

A man named Jafon posted this commentary on my blog 9/29/2014. The religion (actually political party) know as Islam has two goals, (1) to overtake the nation of Israel and set up its own kingdom, and  (2) to replace US constitutional law with Sharia Law of Islam and freedom of religion with Islam. They make no bones about this.

For that reason Americans need to know what the issues are regarding Israel more than any other nation.  Here is what he wrote. It is as valid today as the day he posted it.True Israel is Larger than we think

Fact #1. The Jewish people are the Chosen People: After Adam and Eve sinned, humanity deteriorated so badly that God destroyed the early world of men with the Great Flood. Noah and his family knew the Lord, and were spared, but after they came out of the Ark and started repopulating, their descendants abandoned God, became idolatrous, perverse and evil. Then God created a special nation to be a light to the other nations. The Creator of the universe specifically chose the nation of Israel to be that unique people who would witness to His reality. “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the people who are on the face of the Earth” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

“You are My witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and My servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me. I, even I am the Lord; and there is no Savior beside Me” (Isaiah 43:10-11). If the Chosen People were faithful to our calling, God promised to bless us above all the other nations, so that the nations of the world would know that the God of Israel is the true God who alone can save us, by reconciling us to Himself, thereby restoring us to peace, joy, blessing and life. But if we were disobedient to our calling, the Lord promised to severely punish us so that the nations of the world would learn a lesson from us, and know that it is a terrible thing to disobey the God of Israel. Either way, through our obedience or disobedience, the Chosen People would witness to the other nations of the world that the God of Israel is to be reckoned with.

Fact #2. The Land of Israel belongs to God: “The Earth is the Lord’s and all it contains, the world and those who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1). Since the entire world belongs to God, He has the right to apportion it as He chooses, and He specifically gave the nations their lands based on the Jewish people’s right to the Land of Israel! “When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. For the Lord’s portion is His people; Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance” (Deuteronomy 32:8-9).

Fact #3. The Chosen People needed a Chosen Land, and so the God of Israel strategically chose the Land of Israel for the People of Israel: “This is Jerusalem; I have set her at the center of the nations, with lands around her” (Ezekiel 5:5). The Land that God chose for us is located in the center of the nations, connecting the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. Because of this strategic location, the Jewish people had ample exposure to all the nations of the world.

Fact #4. The Land of Israel was given by God to the descendants of Abraham as an everlasting possession: “The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I will give this Land’” (Genesis 12:7). God further said to Abraham: “I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. And I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession” (Genesis 17:7-8).

Fact #5. Even though Abraham had many sons, the Land of Israel wasn’t given to Ishmael, or to any of the other sons of Abraham, but only to Isaac: “Abraham said to God, ‘Oh that Ishmael might live before You!’ But God said ‘No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him’” (Genesis 17:18-19). God rejected Abraham’s request that Ishmael be the heir of the covenant, and appointed Isaac instead. Years later the Lord God appeared to Isaac and said, “to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. And I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the Earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 26:3-4). Knowing that Isaac was the heir of the covenant, which included the Land of Israel, Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. He gave gifts to his other sons, but he sent them away to the lands of the east, not wanting the heir of the everlasting covenant to have rivalry over the Land of Israel from his siblings (Genesis 25:5-6).

Fact #6. Even though Isaac had two sons, the Land wasn’t given to Esau, but to Jacob: One night Jacob had a dream while fleeing from his brother Esau. In his dream the Lord said to him, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the Land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.” (Genesis 28:13). God later appeared to Jacob and said to him, “the Land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and I will give the Land to your descendants after you” (Genesis 35:11-12). This promise deeds the Land of Israel to the descendants of Jacob – the Jewish people of today.

Fact #7. There is no doubt about Israel’s God-given borders because they are described for us in detail in the Holy Scriptures: “The Lord said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, ‘Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever… Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you’” (Genesis 13:14-17). “The Lord made a covenant with Abraham, saying, ‘To your descendants I have given this Land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates’” (Genesis 15:18-21). “I will fix your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates” (Exodus 23:31). Therefore we must conclude that the entire Land of Israel, including Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”), Gaza, the Golan Heights, and all of Jerusalem, was given by the God of Israel to the people of Israel in perpetuity. We, and we alone, have been given the title to the Land of Israel as a permanent inheritance by the Lord. No human government or coalition of governments has the right or authority to cede portions of the Land of Israel to anyone else.

Fact #8. In addition to the everlasting covenant (which includes the Land), God swore an oath to give the Jewish people this Land: Keep in mind that it’s absolutely impossible for God to break an oath (see Hebrews 6:16-18). In the Holy Scriptures, this oath is reiterated more than forty times. Here is just one example: “He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations, the covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac. Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying, ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance’” (Psalm 105:8-11). There is no other passage in which there are so many words used to describe God’s unyielding commitment to Israel: covenant, word, oath, confirm, commandment, a thousand generations, statute, everlasting covenant. A person has to have a terrible bias not to understand that God is assuring the Jewish people the perpetual right to the Land of Israel in the strongest possible language.

Fact #9. Israel’s sin and resulting exile from the Land of Israel never annulled God’s covenant with His Chosen People, nor did it permanently abrogate our right to the Land of Israel: “Yet in spite of this (Israel’s disobedience), when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors” – which includes the Land of Israel (Leviticus 26:44-45). Our exile from Israel was meant to be temporary! In Deuteronomy 30:1-5, Moses specifically predicted that we would experience a time of obedience and blessing within the Land, followed by a period of disobedience and exile from the Land, followed by spiritual restoration to God and physical restoration to the Land: “So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the Lord your God has banished you, and you return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons, then the Lord your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the people where the Lord your God has scattered you. If your outcasts are at the ends of the Earth, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back. And the Lord your God will bring you into the Land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it.”

It’s no coincidence that after two thousand years of exile, the Chosen People are being restored to the Land that our fathers possessed, and simultaneously, we are being spiritually restored to God through the Messiah, as is evidenced by the growth of the Messianic Jewish movement in Israel and around the world.

The Son of God Himself predicted that because the majority of Israel did not believe He was the Messiah, Jerusalem would be destroyed, and we would be exiled among the nations, but eventually, we would return to Israel (Luke 21:23-24). This prophecy began in 70 AD when Jerusalem was destroyed, and then again in 135 AD, when the Second Jewish Revolt against the Roman Empire was crushed. We were scattered to the nations, and lost political control of Jerusalem. However, over the past 2,000 years, there were always some Jewish people who remained in the Land of Israel. Starting in the 1880’s, this prophesied regathering of Jewish people to Israel picked up speed, and now there is a reborn nation of Israel, with Jerusalem as its capital, with 5.3 million Jewish people regathered from more than 70 countries, just as Israel’s Messiah predicted.

Fact #10. In His prophetic Word, God promised to regather us to “our own Land”: “I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands, and bring you into your own Land… And you will live in the Land that I gave to your forefathers” (Ezekiel 36:24, 28). Again Ezekiel predicts: “Thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own Land’” (Ezekiel 37:21). Jeremiah adds: “‘Behold days are coming’ declares the Lord, ‘when it will no longer be said, “As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt,” but, “As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of the north and from all the countries where He had banished them.” For I will restore them to their own Land which I gave to their fathers’” (Jeremiah 16:14-15). Ultimately this regathering to our own Land will be greater than the Exodus out of Egypt!

Fact #11. In His prophetic Word, God calls this restored Land “Israel” – not “Palestine”: “I will open up your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the Land of Israel” (Ezekiel 37:12). The name “Palestine” comes from the Philistines, the ancient enemies of the Jewish people. “Palestine” was the derogatory name given to the Land of Israel by the Romans after they conquered us. But throughout the Word of God, this Land is always called Israel – never Palestine.

Fact #12. God, speaking to us through the prophet Ezekiel, informs us that this Land is specifically reserved for the Jewish people: “You O mountains of Israel, you will put forth your branches and bear your fruit for My people Israel; for they will soon come. For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be cultivated and sown. I will multiply men on you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities will be inhabited and the waste places will be rebuilt” (Ezekiel 36:8-10). 2,500 years ago Ezekiel told us that in the Last Days the Jewish people would be restored to our Land. The Land would begin to prosper and the Jewish population would greatly increase. In the past century these prophetic words have been coming to pass. The Land of Israel, which lay barren for centuries, has seen increasing numbers of the sons of Israel returning to our ancient homeland, repopulating the cities and cultivating the Land.

Fact #13. 2,500 years ago the Lord also told us that the Jewish return to the Land would provoke a reaction from Israel’s neighbors: “Because the enemy has spoken against you ‘Aha’ and ‘The everlasting heights have become our possession’ … Surely in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My Land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and scorn of soul, to drive it out as a prey” (Ezekiel 36:2-5). Even though the nations surrounding Israel would claim possession of the Land of Israel for themselves, and try to drive out its rightful Jewish inhabitants, God repudiates the claims of these nations. Even though the majority of the Jewish people were exiled from our Land (there always was a remnant of Jewish people who remained within Israel), that doesn’t give anyone else the right to claim the Land of Israel for themselves. If a landlord has some bad tenants that he evicts from his property, he does not expect anyone else to enter his vacant property and claim it for their own. Due to our sins, the Landlord of Israel evicted most of us from the Land, but that didn’t give the Romans, the Byzantines, the Crusaders, the Ottomans or the Arabs the right to claim God’s holy Land for themselves.

Fact #14. God will severely judge any nation who divides up any part of this special Land: “In those days and at that time when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My Land” (Joel 3:1-2). When Messiah Yeshua returns, the fortunes of the Jewish people will be fully restored, and the nations will be summoned to Jerusalem, where they will be judged for scattering the Jewish people and dividing up our Land.

Fact #15. Eventually this conflict over the Land of Israel will entangle the entire world: God, speaking through the prophet Zechariah in 12:1-3, in the Sixth Century BC, predicted: “Behold I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around” (the nations will react to the regathering of the Jewish people with senseless behavior and irrational hatred); “and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. And it will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples” (Israel’s Islamic neighbors want to destroy the hated “Zionist Entity” because the Islamic worldview teaches that the entire world will ultimately come under the control of Islam.

A Jewish state in the midst of the Moslem Middle East is by its very existence an insult to Allah and Islam, and must be destroyed. Islam can have no true and lasting peace with Israel – only a temporary cease-fire. Hostilities will once again be renewed when Islamic strength is renewed. At its core, this is a religious conflict – not a political or economic one); “all who lift it will be severely injured.” (The nations of the world will be drawn into this conflict and try to remove the Jewish presence from Jerusalem. However, be warned – every nation that tries to remove the Jewish people from our Land and capital city will be severely injured). “And all the nations of the Earth will be gathered against it.” (The world’s united nations will wage a final world war in the Middle East, directed against Israel).

It’s amazing to see this 2,500-year-old prophetic scenario shaping up before our very eyes! Zechariah’s prophecy continues and informs us that the army of the united nations will be defeated; God will destroy all those nations that fight against Israel; Israel will be miraculously saved and recognize Yeshua as the Messiah!

Fact #16. This will be a time of great difficulty for the Jewish people, but they will be miraculously delivered out of it: “Alas! for that day is great, there is none like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s distress, but he will be saved from it” (Jeremiah 30:7). The fires of anti-Semitism will reach their hottest point in the near future, but with God’s help, we will come through our fiery trials to a time of unparalleled salvation. Israel’s salvation and blessing will then overflow to the other nations of the world.

END

Americans by custom and nature don ‘t want to be drawn into other people’s arguments. We hesitated to enter both World War 1 and 2 because we don’t like to take sides. In Genesis 12:1-3 the Lord promises to stand behind Israel; he also promises to curse any nation which comes against Israel.  That could be America if she doesn’t get smart.  The issue of Islam vs. Israel, and by extension The Whole World will not go away. It is our problem too.

God’s Opinion of National Identity and the Brexit Vote

No doubt you assumed God had no opinion about things like this, but once again, if we look into the Bible carefully, we find a slew of dicta regarding national behavior and identity, and not just in the Old Testament.

God does not want world government.

God does not want world government.

First of these is the clear national individuality of nations.  Globalization and world government were a major goal in the early years of the planet which resulted in mass confusion.  This happened at the Tower of Babel where everyone at that time spoke the same language and joined to contest God for sovereignty of the world.

Genesis 11 The Message (MSG) “God Turned Their Language into ‘Babble’”

11 1-2 At one time, the whole Earth spoke the same language. It so happened that as they moved out of the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled down. They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and fire them well.” They used brick for stone and tar for mortar.

Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower that reaches Heaven. Let’s make ourselves famous so we won’t be scattered here and there across the Earth.” God came down to look over the city and the tower those people had built.

6-9 God took one look and said, “One people, one language; why, this is only a first step. No telling what they’ll come up with next—they’ll stop at nothing! Come, we’ll go down and garble their speech so they won’t understand each other.” Then God scattered them from there all over the world. And they had to quit building the city. That’s how it came to be called Babel, because there God turned their language into “babble.” From there God scattered them all over the world.

Well, that was just the first of the disasters.  God scrambled the languages and the people scattered all speaking something “foreign” and confusion lasted until today. That should remind us that President Obama’s and the Democratic Party’s emphasis on world government will no doubt fall into ruin.  But it is pretty hard to tell anyone at the high levels of politics that they are headed the wrong way.

Acts 17:26 TLV From one He made every nation of men to live on the face of the earth, having set appointed times and the boundaries of their territory. (This is not a Godly endorsement of predatory imperialism.)

Britain has chosen to renew its independence from the European Union, a much better functioning Babylon, but still rife with ills, and hopefully Britain will regain some of the moral high ground it has lost.

So, God has a mission for every nation, and a territorial boundary for them too.  Nations have a Godly identity.  So far I’ve seen almost nothing written on this topic. Tiny Estonia is an interesting case.  Under the boot of the Communist Soviet Union (union maybe but not unity, lacking personal or political freedom) the people started singing.  Yes, singing.  Slowly but surely groups became larger and larger singing the old, popular songs of the nation.  When European communism collapsed in the 1980’s Estonia was unified and regained its ground without a shot.

Remember when Paul and Silas were in jail and they started singing?  An earthquake caused the bars of the jail to collapse and they were freed.  So this singing oneself to freedom is not some new thing for Estonia. (Acts 16)

Clearly, the USA has a specific call which she has met.  Preachers often fume over why God has not blasted this nation off the map, but then we look at the stats.  There are many internet sites showing American charitable giving, which should not be confused with national foreign aid some of which does not go to anything other than political figures or causes.  But overall Americans are the most generous people on earth, and continue to be a military aid to some nations in trouble, depending on the President in charge.  Nor do Americans take land or slaves after they have buried their dead soldiers in foreign soil. One of the most astonishing and unique events in world history is the Marshall Plan to put Germany back on its feet after World War 2.

God blasted many nations not only off the earth but off history entirely for abortion, which continues to be an international scourge. In Canada and the USA, abortion rates are 18 per 1,000 births; 26 per 1,000 for  Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan; 28 per 1,000 Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen; Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, China, Hong Kong, Macao, Korea, Japan, Mongolia; 29 per 1,000 Belize, Costa Rico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama; 32 per 1,000 Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela; 36 per 1,000 Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe,Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam,Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, Saint Eustatius, Saba, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Saint-Barth, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mayotte, Mozambique; 43 per 1,000 Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic , Hungary, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Ukraine.

Biblical nations which served the god of child sacrifice Molech that are no more are the Hittites, Canaanites, Jebusites, and the list goes on.  It is a warning to modern nations; you have no guarantee of permanence.

When I started, I’d not intended to focus on abortion but some interesting things have emerged.  First, babies go to heaven. (Yes, it is a big place.)  From these statistics, the ethnic background of the residents of heaven will largely be non-anglos.  That will match the international statistics as well.

Second, we notice that formerly communist and communist block countries have larger abortion rates.  This tells us that bad government has a definite impact on abortion rates, no doubt mirroring the poor income levels.  Millennials so intent on bringing socialism to the USA should pay attention here.  Socialism is communism without a gun to your head; the dictatorship comes later after they take your cash.

Third, abortion rates are a general barometer of poverty rates. People really do want to have children.  We know that America is in a 8 year slump despite political protestations to the contrary because birth rates have gone down!  Marriage rates and employment rates are way down too.  God likes peace because with it we gain prosperity and a future.  But there is no peace for the wicked. (Isaiah 48:2)

Finally there such a thing as goat nations. Matthew 25:31.

31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44 Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not [e]take care of You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Christians who avoid voting need to take this seriously.  Our nation, all other nations, will be judged by the mercy shown to others.  We need to see some sermons on this!

Symbols – Mineral Kingdom and Given Names

The things of the natural world are a reflection of spiritual truth. So if you want to know truths about God or life, look to the natural world for evidence. For example, The Bible says whatsoever you plant that alone shall you reap. We don’t plant tomatoes and expect to grow avocados. Similarly our deeds are plants in the soil of life; we reap a life from our deeds, and that of others as well, parents, leaders, friends.  Bad parents, bad leaders, bad friends all influence our immediate world independent of what we do. And our lives impact others as well. Good associations have beneficial effects which frequently we do not realize for many years.

In the sometimes strange world of Biblical symbolism, things are upside down. The mineral world is superior to the vegetable and that is superior to the animal kingdom.  The lamb (Jesus) is sacrificed for the sins of the world, and those who join Him in heaven become stars in his crown.  Stars sing, which means they are personalities.  Living matter is brief whether man or elephant but diamonds are forever as the local jeweler advertises.

Diamonds are a symbol of suffering because they are formed under intense heat and pressure. The suffering is also hidden from public view.  Diamonds are very hard to locate and to extract from their mountains of dirt.  Dirt represents natural man.  It is not to be confused with “being dirty” unless the dream specifically says so.  Earthiness is not evil in itself.  It is just not a spiritual substance.  However, a dream in which you see the need for a bath means just that- you need to find out what you have been involved with that has left you soiled.

Keep in mind that dreams are about truth, and need to be looked into in that light.  We are supposed to take baths regularly, but if we have been in the wrong place with the wrong people, a dream might indicate to get rid of that association and clean up your act.  Taking too many baths is also not a good sign.  In Shakespeare’s  play Lady Macbeth repeatedly washed her hands.  Her guilt was what she was trying to wash away. The Pattern and Meaning of the English Bible

When I heard a preacher say that the organization of the books of the Bible had no overall plan, I thought “God is never careless like that.  You can always see a design in everything He does” so I began looking for it.  Jews, ancient and modern, find patterns in their scriptures, something we Westerners do not do as often.  For example, there is a pattern in the 10 plagues of Egypt.  Two plagues give a warning, then the third does not.  This continues up until the 10th.  What does that mean?  I don’t know, but the pattern is there.

Now about the pattern regarding the arrangement of the Bible.

GODS PLAN for TIME(version 1) If you can, print this Excel spreadsheet out.

You will notice that John 1:1 identifies that eternity begins before natural time begins in Genesis 1:1.  God created the entire world system prior to revealing it in Genesis.  The Jerusalem Bible translates John 1:1 this way: “Before the beginning began the Word was.”

The first principle of earth is free will.  God does not violate our free will; He simply adds a layer of His will accessible to us through our obedience. Our free will limits His authority but He has done this for our benefit. When people ask why doesn’t God step in and fix situations the answer is right here.  And many people do not believe in God precisely because they expect an all-powerful deity to make things right.  God’s insistence on our free will in this earth limits HIM, and frees us. Living on the Interest – A Life Fulfilled

Leontyne Price was born in a small Mississippi town and traveled to New York to study at the famed Julliard School of Music. Subsequently she became the first African-American to star in top-rated operas, famous on every continent where opera is revered.  Describing her training she said I “invested for many years in the principal” of my voice and then continued to the end of her career “singing on the interest.”  I’d never heard anyone refer to interest, much less a talent, as other than cold cash.

But our whole life, not just our money is an investment of time, energy, and purpose. If we develop our talents thoroughly eventually we end the strain of trying to do better and better.  There is a time in our lives, not when things are easy, but when our professional status is like gliding.  All the energy expended previously is now keeping us airborne and productive.

This is the quality that distinguishes an actor who can play roles well into his 60s and 70s, versus one who lasts only so long as her talents are marketable.  This is the ability authors gain when they continue to write good books and not just re-write the first big seller. James A Michener continued well into his 90s writing highly detailed historical novels.  About Centennial he said with amusement, “After you read this you will know more about Colorado than you ever cared to know.”  You could say that about all his works, but that is what made them great, the attention to minute details.  He would do so much research that when he completed one project he had almost enough for another book.  His vast personal knowledge based on research had the bizarre effect of increasing itself the more he used it.   He was writing on the interest.

Martin Luther King, Jr in spite of dying at 42 years of age still lived on interest.  He studied great literature and his speeches are filled with Biblical allusions and references to history. He spoke with what appeared to be little effort at all. His most-quoted “I have a Dream” speech is a literary gem replete with quotations from other works.  That alone makes it worth literary study. Anyone can be a black activist, or a white activist as well, but not everyone can move millions to passion, purpose and hope.  He had invested in great literature and became a literary force in the process.

Two friends of mine have been married 50 years.  Not in the best of health now their marriage is supported only by interest.  Because they have invested so much in each other’s lives and the marriage between them, they no longer have to work at it.  Some couples act lovey-dovey, but not this pair. People frequently ask them about being happily married even when no one has previously broached the subject.  In other words their investment shows.

Let me tell you the sad story of a friend of mine whose marriage collapsed after 30 years.  She described it in the same terms we have used here, unaware of Leontyne’s prophetic words.  She said she had devoted herself to her husband believing her marriage was a 50-50 proposition and for many decades investing in the “marital” bank, even neglecting her relationship with her children. Overwhelmed, one day she was forced to seek support for herself but looking into the joint account balance, she found it barely open.  Not only had her husband not invested anything in their account, but he had been withdrawing her steady payments.  The account, like her marriage, was closed.  Marriage counselors, especially Christian ones, are often astonished by the numbers of Christian marriages that go under.  This story sounds like a good explanation to me.

Itzhak Pearlman, famous first violinist, was playing one day with the orchestra when one string broke.  Without missing a beat he finished the rest of the concert using only the 3 remaining strings.  Gleefully, the audience rose to their feet in a cheer.  This is called playing the violin on interest.

Sometimes success is knowing when to move on.  You have never heard a 2nd rate song by Doris Day, at one time the biggest box office draw in Hollywood, and for good reason.  She knew when to leave the stage.  She has spent her older years working for the betterment of animals.  Living on the interest also knows when to turn over the reins to a new generation.

This quality permits a tennis star leave the court when days of raw physical prowess are behind to become a great coach or talented sports observer.  The same qualities that make a good football star can also make a good stock broker, or inner city minister.  They are living on the interest.

When the investment of principal is not there, or it is inadequate, that also shows.  The skater swings out too wide and catches herself on the board surrounding the ice; she jumps and nearly falls.  The skier flies high but lands and slides into the spectators. We groan.  In contrast the professional makes it all look so easy and effortless.  That is living on the interest.

If you continue to draw down the principal of life eventually there is nothing there.  Many elders wake up to find themselves 70 and broke!  There is little energy left and the principal is gone.  Many a pop star has endured 10 or even 20 years, then we learn they die in an alley somewhere, maybe alcohol, drugs, or profligate living has stripped them of both principal and interest. Every year a news reporter digs up a story on an aging celebrity recently found in the streets, flop house or rescue mission – a big name at one time – how they fell from fashion and are now living on the handouts from others.  They thought the principal of their talent would never go away.

Living on the interest means taking charge of your own life.  Judy Garland once complained that she worked herself to death but never saw a profit.  Her schedule was grueling.  When she died young, the people who spent her millions were identified but now it was too late for her.  She, like Elvis Presley, had been fed drugs to help her perform under intense pressure; it cost them their lives.  They might have been living on interest but the handlers around them were dipping into the principal of someone else’s life.  Talent never dies, we enjoy both Judy and Elvis today, but it can be wasted, mis-used, and stolen.

Winston Churchill could have easily become a sour old curmudgeon when the Parliament rejected his leadership after the 2nd World War, but he had learned that you can take your principal with you. He wrote many English history books receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature. Interest can be spent anywhere and any time, but the principal is yours and you can carry it with you wherever you want to go. You are the boss of your principal.

Our stories are not so dramatic but they can be just as instructive.  I am always a future-oriented person, building, studying, working towards the future.  Then when I was about 62 I woke up – Hey, I said to myself, I am living in the very future I have been working so hard for.  I need to start living right now and I did.  I started living on the interest of life invested in education.

Discussion questions:

1. What investment of your life (remember we are not ever talking about money here) has really paid off?

2.  Reflecting on your own life, is there any investment of time and energy that proved to be a complete waste?

3. There are 2 stories here about marriage.  While the details are sketchy, can you speculate on what caused one to succeed and the other to fail?  What do you think about the idea of “investing principal” in a personal relationship?

4. In our tragic stories here of Judy and Elvis we can empathize with their efforts and their talent.  Can you speculate on what they should have done to stop being used so badly?  Have you ever been used and called a halt to it?  What were the consequences?

5. Leontyne Price and her brother both became famous, he as an admiral in the United States Navy.  What do you suppose was common in their upbringing in the small town of Laurel, Mississippi that brought this pair of black children to such accomplishment?  What can we do for our children to set them on the path of valuable living?

6. How is it that “talent never dies”?

7. The author told of a time when she turned her life around and started doing things differently. Have you ever closed down one part of your life and gone on to something else?  Was it hard to do?  What prompted you to that decision?

The Nature of Demons – Part 1

Demons are the smallest, lowest spirit beings in the spiritual world.  They are believed to have originated when 1/3 rd of the angels fell with the rebellion of Lucifer who defied the authority of God prior to the creation of the universe, the world and what we know as earth.  There are billions of them, but fortunately for mankind, 2/3rds of the angels remain and they are good,  God’s unseen spiritual servants.

The first goal of demons is to rule humans by fear. That is the most common method.  But if humans smarten up and see that demons are not in control of everything, then demons seek to have humans believe they don’t exist at all.  The 1st is the belief of primitive societies; the second belief is found in civilized societies.  Either way the demons appear to be either non-existent or harmless.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Demons have only one nature.  This is helpful to us.  For example, a lying demon will not steal and the whining demon will not be curse.  The Bible is filled with these names, scattered about the pages –  lust, strife, confusion, evil work, whining, depression, rebellion, religion, false humility, contempt, shame, guilt, jealousy, rage, blame, confusion, pride, presumption, greed, stubborn, controlling, and murder, hate,  plus all the disease demons, I could go on, but I’ll leave a scripture list for later on.

Their common goal is to ruin the life of man, spoil our mental and physical health, foul up our decision-making, lure us into witchcraft or the occult, control our behavior and if at all possible keep us both out of salvation for this life and heaven in the next. And this is the purpose of the entire evil spirit kingdom. Continue reading

How to Interpret Scripture – a Prototype Lesson

Please read 1st Samuel 25 in The Message which you can find free at Bible Gateway.com  It is a modern translation and reads easily.

There are at a minimum three ways to interpret scripture.  In this story the 1st, basic way is to recognize that it is a historical piece about David before he became king of Judah, Nabal, a wealthy rancher, and Abigail, his wife.  Anyone who reads a Bible can understand the meaning level of the story.

The second level is the interpretation of the story as a model for good and bad management, several other lessons about human nature, what to do, and what not to do and why.  The third level is the spiritual interpretation which you can read in a piece about Nabal.

Going back to level 2, we learn that Nabal (whose name means “fool” reminding you that you should name your children wisely) owns a huge ranch with thousands of sheep and goats.  Here in Texas you need 25 acres for 100 sheep so Nabal needs 750 acres for his sheep alone plus 10 goats per acre at a very minimum, about 1000 acres including some for the humans.  In Texas there is a privately owned ranch larger than the State of Rhode Island; animals need large amounts of grazing land and supervision is difficult.

David has 600 followers guarding Nabal’s land mass the final stages of growth prior to the sheep shearing when rustlers could steal unguarded animals or even murder the herders.  For this season David’s unseen army has been their protector, so he asks Nabal for proper payment for his services.  Nabal brushes him off, saying since he didn’t see him how does he know he has actually done his job?  Nabal could not possibly have known whether his land was being protected and by whom given its size.

Last year a man brandished a gun against his ex-wife who was hiding out in my building, on my floor.  I knew nothing of it.  You do not have to see a crime in process to acknowledge you are being protected.  That is why we pay our army and the sheriff even though we may never see results with our own eyes.  The very fact that we live in peace means they are minding our business.

David becomes incensed and resolves to slaughter Nabal and his employees.  Abigail, a wife who is no fool, gathers together a meal for David’s men and takes it there to prevent any retribution.  David is properly thankful and his men enjoy their feast.

When Abigail returns home she finds her husband dead drunk after a giant party, but she waits to tell her husband how she paid off David until Nabal is sober.  He goes into a coma – we can project here that perhaps it is the DT’s – and after 10 days dies.  Abigail then becomes wife #2 for David.

Here are the lessons to learn.

  • Just because you don’t see the protection you have does not mean you are not responsible for blessing them.  That is why we pay our taxes.  A workman is worthy of his hire.  The size of the payment was equal to the size of the job they did.
  • The blessing must be equal the task.  Abgail did not show up with 3 sheep and a few loaves of bread, but enough for the entire crowd.  We are to pay what we owe.
  • When the proper authorities fail to do their duty you can step in to compensate.
  • Vengeance is mine says the Lord. David’s hot head reaction was about to do him in which he recognized (verse 30 ff). This could have cost him the throne of Israel.  see post on vengeance
  • Recognize, as David did, that someone was sent by God to prevent his planned revenge.  David was having a testosterone fit and defending his ego.  Don’t do it.  God will make things right.
  • Nabal acted rashly and so did David. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
  • Wait until someone is sober before telling them the truth.  I’ve used this on occasion and it works.  The person may not accept what you say but don’t waste good revelation on someone whose mind is damaged by drink or drugs.

Level 2 is where ministers get their sermon material, so you need not wait for them to preach – study it yourself.

The third level of interpretation is the one which looks at some spiritual truth in the story by digging into details.  I’ll cover that in another post on Nabal.

There is also a subsidiary lesson on the judgment of nations, about which  there appears to be little written. Nabal died after 10 days and ten is the number of The Law.  If someone died :under the “Law” that is without mercy or grace of God, the Law must be satisfied.  Jesus’ death satisfied the requirements of the Law, but we have traditionally applied that only to individuals.  But God judges nations too.

There are sheep nations and goat nations. One of my tasks for future study is to sort out what the Law requires for national status before God. We know that Israel is the chosen people and more importantly the chosen piece of real estate; we also know that the USA has special status and continues, in spite of its many sins, because she both protects other nations and is a zealous missionary nation. In 2012 there were 419,000 Christian foreign missionaries and if course many others inside the country.  Per capita South Korea has even more and she will be rewarded by reuniting with North Korea when the time comes.

The Bible states that “the iniquity of the Amorites” (Genesis 15:16) be fulfilled before God will judge them.  We, the readers, are not told how many days, weeks, or months it will take for “sin to be fulfilled” but we can be sure that it will be applied.  I’ve fumed over the fact that Syria has been allowed for so very long to murder its own citizens.  I’ve asked God to judge this nation, but it does not happen, because apparently Syria’s sin is not up to the brim in fulfilling the law.

Hence, 10 more days or periods of time, and 10 could easily be ten more years, or in the case of Syria, 10 more decades. I, as an American, am not told how long we must wait for Syria’s sin to be fulfilled, but if  I were a Syrian I’d ask God and if He revealed that, then I and my believing friends could pray according to the prophecies (1 Timothy 1:18) spoken over us  to bring down our corrupt government.  We do know that God tries to get every one out before He lowers His hammer.  Lot and his daughters got out of Sodom in the nick of time.  In fact he was so pokey the judgment rained down the very same day he left. Luke 17:29.

Abigail became the wife of the King of Israel as a result of her generous and also dangerous act.  Nabal had the authority in that culture, and certainly enough power, to kill his wife for taking family property to provide for David and 600 men.  Nabal’s coma protected Abigail, another blessing from God.

The Lord wants us to dig deep into His word.  We get to know Him, His plans, and Himself.

God’s View of Time – Kairos and Chronos

Inasmuch as time and space define each other God made space and therefore He also made time. There is an end to time and also an end to space. We don’t usually think of space ending but it does, or otherwise it can’t be space. Time defines it, and time will end. Time had a specified beginning which we refer to as The Big Bang, and due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, it will also come to an end as the planets waste away.

Isaiah 51:6 “Lift up your eyes to the sky,
Then look to the earth beneath;
For the sky will vanish like smoke,
And the earth will wear out like a garment
And its inhabitants will die [d]in like manner;
But My salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not wane.

The Lord throws in there a reminder that while even the earth will wimp away, all people will continue to live on.

Time is divided by hours, days, weeks, months, years and seasons. Of this list only man has control of days. Minutes are never mentioned. God determines the rest. Of both David and Job it is said they died “full of days.”

Job 42:17 And Job died, an old man and full of days.

A shortened life was not considered to be as honorable.

Weeks are given special status as festival times. God governs seasons; they will change whether you approve or whether it is convenient to you or not. Most people do not plan for the bad times; others delay, but times of inflation and recession and of prosperity are built into the system. See “The Mystery of the Shemitah.”

Many seasons are predefined. Most people, even if they have no Biblical information, have heard of this passage.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—

2 A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
5 A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
6 A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.
9 What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils? 10 I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.

11 He has made everything appropriate in its time.

Human Beings set unrealistic goals for themselves – a life based on enjoying a euphoric status quo. And it never happens because this entire list is the inheritance of mankind. I am also royally annoyed when one of the celebrity TV hosts says Starlet so-and-so mourns the tragic loss of her father. Tragic maybe if he was 50, but the old guy was 82. That is called a time to die. Tragic nothing. Learning to live with both loss and gain is part of our earthly assignment, and the rest of the list as well.

God knows everything about time, before, during and after. He is totally outside time and we are inside, for the time being.

An MIT scientists explains the difference between chronos and kairos in this video. Diagram of How God Exists outside time (kairos) and the universe inside time (chronos)

This helps us to define omniscience, His knowing everything. Where people get off base is thinking God has His thumb on the scale. He doesn’t. You were born with a plan for your life; some people locate it, many do not. God is rooting for you and motivating you into that plan; but He never takes away your free will.

Back in the 1980’s there was a Broadway show “Fame” with a popular song “I’m gonna live forever,” as though this was special. Of course you will! Everyone lives forever, it just depends on where one lives. Everyone has eternal living, but not everyone has eternal life. You can live in an eternity of misery too. It’s called hell. And Your free will is what gets you to where you are going.

You have freedom in the context of the season when you were born. I was born into a world at war. It was a season of war. I had no ability to extricate myself from that. It was being fought, bravely and finally, by others. I could be a flaming pacifist if I chose but it would not take away that war. God had a great purpose in World War 2; He got the Jews out of Europe and into the very homeland He had promised two thousand years before. The way He managed this is the stuff of miraculous history.

Against All Odds Video Series If you have a chance, see this series.

God warned the Jews they were be in bondage for 70 years because they had violated the law of the Shemetah. They did, and He did. To the very 70th year they stayed as slaves and then were released. But God was not a tyrant. He did not extend the punishment beyond the stated years. Let us say you were born in the middle of those slavery years; you’d be chafing against the bit, thinking God had it out for you, But no, your parents and their parents generations previously caused this breach in their happy life in their home country and consequently also in yours.

Knowing God helps us to adjust to the life we have. I was an abused child, isolated from other people for most of my childhood. I hardly knew who I was or anything about the world. I could not imagine this being from God but I later saw how this prepared me for the life I now lead. Yes it was a tough assignment but those days are behind me, and I am more than able to handle where I am now.

2 Corinthians 6 (NKJV) Marks of the Ministry
6 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says:
“In an acceptable time I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Now, since all humans will live in eternity we need to define it. There is nothing in the Bible to verify the annihilation of humans. This is a popular theory to rid believers of a sense of responsibility for their own future. But, God’s word doesn’t go away. Another theory is reincarnation which says we’ll be born at another point in time. This also permits believers to assume they can get away with anything on earth in this life and not pay the price. Again wrong. If Jesus died for your sins, He died for the sins of the present not of the past or the future. You can see more on this topic at http://wp.me/p1otAF-1a.

TIME VS. ETERNITY

Genesis 1:1 starts chronological time. It says, “In the beginning” meaning the temporal beginning. The Greeks called this time “chronos.” We get many English words from this word. At the same time the Greeks recognized that there was an eternity outside time and independent of it. So John begins his gospel with these words, “Before the beginning began” meaning that there was an eternity prior to creation. There is an eternity after creation ends, as we have noted. John uses this to describe where Jesus was at the time of the creation. Here is the whole passage.

John 1:1-30 The Voice (VOICE)This Gospel begins not with Jesus’ birth or John’s baptism but with a deliberate echo of the creation story in Genesis. It takes us back before time began to the moment when God interrupts the silence and speaks the cosmos into existence. Only John’s Gospel names Jesus as the Logos and declares that He existed long before time was measured. This Greek word carries a variety of meanings, all relating to the act of speaking. It could be translated “word,” a thought that comes to expression, message, declaration, reason, or the content of preaching; most are found in various translations. It is clear that John means that logos is declared to all creation

The Greek word indicating timelessness or eternal time is Kairos. This separation of the two elements of time is seen in the Old Testament as well.

Ezekiel 10:9-13 And then I saw four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub. The wheels radiating were sparkling like diamonds in the sun. All four wheels looked alike, each like a wheel within a wheel. When they moved, they went in any of the four directions but in a perfectly straight line. Where the cherubim went, the wheels went straight ahead. The cherubim were full of eyes in their backs, hands, and wings. The wheels likewise were full of eyes. I heard the wheels called “wheels within wheels.”

Truly this confuses even the best of us. But the picture is of outside wheels moving seamlessly through space and the wheels inside moving very quickly. This is a picture of God’s time: Eternity (kairos) on the outside and chronos on the inside.” As eternity moves forward the time/space we live in is moving inside eternity. Most of the images on the internet were more confusing that the Bible!!! No wonder it’s been co-opted by New Age stuff. At the very least the images should be 3D. Seeing it without diamonds or mini-angels makes it easier to comprehend.

These 2 are a poor representation but a start.wheels2The Chronos wheel inside the Kairos wheel

At least this one is poised in space with God looking on.wheels3Outer wheel kairos; inner wheel chronos

Eventually chronos will go away and we all live somewhere in kairos.

What is the meaning of this lesson? Frankly, life is not to be wasted. There are consequences for frittering away your time, or that of others. There are consequences for failing to support The Lord and His word. God has made a way for all men; His eyes look to and fro across the earth to see who is looking for him.

2 Chronicles 16:8 The Message – God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him.

You are not being ignored.

Hair – An Important Symbol

Hair as a symbol is badly misunderstood, or not at all, and very important. There are 2 main meanings in the Bible which you can apply to your dream discovery process.

First, it stands for a covering, either the glory of God or shame. Adam and Eve, previously covered with God’s glory, immediately covered themselves to hide their shame after they sinned. No one had to tell them to do this; it was automatic. Shame can also be seen in other coverings such as a beard or excessive makeup in women.

Psalm 69:7 Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.

Adam and Eve used fig leaves as a covering. Fig leaves are a symbol of good works, a substitute for what God really wants. (I’ll write on the fig tree another time.) Later God covered them with animal skins. As long as Hebrews (Jews) were under the Law they wore beards. The shame does not go away until after it is completely lifted by the sacrificial death of Jesus. Hence, Christians do not usually wear beards. When a formerly clean-shaven man sports a new beard, you might ask yourself, has he recently sinned? Of course, in some circles today it is just fashionable. I’ve been told Jesus in heaven has a small trimmed
beard. Two children who went to heaven report this an accurate portrait.

A handsome man of my acquaintance came to my office sporting a new beard and I was so shocked I said, ” My God,” which ordinarily I never say as a sign of respect. I knew then he had committed adultery. Furthermore he and the beard looked awful. Later facts proved my reaction true.

Women don’t have beards so they substitute hair shielding their eyes; shamed people do not want you to look into their eyes. Notice the people on TV with hair in their faces as they testify before Congress. The covering says more than the testimony, which we notice is usually a dodge. Political pundits tell you – quite truthfully – that it is never the crime that catches the chicanery, but the cover-up. The word “cover-up” tells us the tale! And they are always trapped by it.

Excessive make-up is associated with a prostitute or perhaps excessive clothing to hide scars of which they are ashamed.

Psalm 44:15 My dishonor is continually before me, And the shame of my face has covered me.

Remember back in the 60s we made fun of teenagers who wore dark glasses indoors and at night. Baldness, in the spirit, means no ministry at all, although there are plenty of ministering believers as bald as an egg. Genes are not to be confused with the promises and symbols of the Almighty. Yes, we know they were often strung out on drugs, needing a guise to keep the narcs away but it also was a sign of shame.

The Islamic burka does that for Muslim women. They are hidden by the shame of their religion, as well they should be, one which ordains murder as a rite of passage to heaven. The “glory” of women is their hair, and since the word woman symbolizes the church, the ministry of the church is its glory.

1 Corinthians 11:15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.

Islam has no desire for the Church of Jesus to be glorified or seen, nowadays even to exist, all signaled to us by the covering of the women. Symbols like this can easily be interpreted in ordinary life. If reflects theology.

Notice how quickly your child hides something as you enter his room suddenly. What have they hidden, and why? Smart mothers see this. There are even more scriptures about covering which I’ll include at the end.

But hair also symbolizes ministry. This is a complex idea and probably a new thought to you. There is a good deal of Law in the Old Testament about hair, how long, how trimmed, when not to shave etc. It all seems quite arcane. But if you think of this having to do with God’s ministry through you it makes more sense. Hair, after all, grows by itself. There is not one thing you can do about it, as many a bald man has despaired.

The interpretation is that God does not want you tampering with your ministry, except under careful conditions. There are too many ministers (Christian included) who add to God’s word, or more often and worse, leave a good bit out. Neither pleases the Lord. He wants His word presented His way.

There are 89 references to hair in the New King James Bible, so obviously we can’t go to all of them. But take the time to look them up. Seeing that hair means ministry helps you understand God’s message, in this case, to mostly men who are the Old Testament ministers.

Trimmed hair is thrown into the fire – that means that you must be willing to see your ministry destroyed. We are not to hang on to even our best, divine successes. It shows our dedication. Or it may be a test. {If you do not have a Bible the web site Bible Gateway is free and easy to use. }

After a “time of separation” usually referring to a season of fasting, hair is sometimes shaved off and then regrown anew. This sort of thing happened to me. My ministry today is not a whit like 35 years ago. That old hair is gone. I am told that every cell in the body is replaced every 7 years, with the sole exception of the brain cells.

God promises that not one hair of our heads will be lost. That means ministry done for Him and in His name does not go away. I spent about 10 years working with inmates and victims of crime. Sometimes I look back and wonder if it “worked.” It’s God’s promise that He will keep these newbies in check and I need not worry.

This is a good promise from God.

Proverbs 16:31 The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness.

Silver is a symbol of salvation, just as gold means holiness. All those people that you led to the Lord are your silver-hair. You wondered what kind of crown you’ll have in heaven? It’s all those people you reached for Christ.

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

1 Thessalonians 2:20 For ye are our glory and joy.

Perhaps the most important scripture involving hair is found in the New Testament. How many people have fallen into a deep ditch over this one.

1 Corinthians 11:6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.

A woman whose husband is not a believing Christian or who has fallen away from following Christ for some reason should end her ministry until he is straightened out. That is the symbolic meaning of this passage. I happen to know a couple where this happened. The wife did not accept that she should stop and trouble ensued for her until she realized this passage was for her. Her problem simply was, she would not accept that her husband had turned his back on Jesus.

Following this logic, we can also assume that a congregation that has a fallen minister should also wait until they get a new one before continuing the church’s work. Ministers do not need to be saints, plastic or otherwise, but neither should they have a string of sinful failures. It takes time to rebuild one’s reputation and that is best done away from the limelight or spiritual leadership.

Here are the additional passages I promised referring to shame and a covering. Look up Samson’s story too. {Judges 16} It is about hair.

Psalm 69:7 Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.

Psalm 89:45 The days of his youth You have shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah {Selah means meditate or contemplate on this.}

Psalm 109:29 Let my accusers be clothed with shame, And let them cover themselves with their own disgrace as with a mantle.

Proverbs 12:16 A fool’s wrath is known at once, But a prudent man covers shame.

Jeremiah 3:25 We lie down in our shame, And our reproach covers us. For we have sinned against the Lord our God, We and our fathers, From our youth even to this day, And have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

Jeremiah 51:51
We are ashamed because we have heard reproach. Shame has covered our faces, For strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the Lord’s house.

Ezekiel 7:18 They will also be girded with sackcloth; Horror will cover them; Shame will be on every face, Baldness on all their heads.

Obadiah 1:10 [ Edom Mistreated His Brother ] “For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

Micah 7:10 Then she who is my enemy will see, And shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will see her; Now she will be trampled down Like mud in the streets.

In conclusion, you can now have the information to recognize hair in your dream as a message.

Post Script: The scripture where the Lord says He knows the number of hairs on your head is

Matthew 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Meaning – He knows the extent of your ministry which, since you can’t count your head hairs, means He knows more than you do about what you should be doing.

This post on hair has been the most popular one on this blog for all of October, and outstripping every other one even for this year. So I re-post it.

Einstein, String Theory, Quantum Physics and God

In the past 100 years because of questions asked and answered by physicists, the nature of reality has changed both in theory and in practice. The simple notions we have of life on earth do not work well in the outer reaches of space.

In Brian Greene’s book, The Fabric of the Cosmos intended for non-scientific readers, his first chapter is a clear outline of the issues facing science today as the result of these investigations. One – common reality and the new reality do not match. Two – string theory outlines a number, as many as 17 dimensions as yet unidentified. And three – space and time should be interchangeable but are not.

Scientific questions remain –(1) why does time always point forward, never backward,(2) why can’t we find a “unified theory” and (3) how can we explain all the different dimensions, referred to as string theory.

The Bible – imagine that – explains all of this. Virtually everything scientists have asked is answered by the Word of God.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Or to quote the Jerusalem version of John 1:1, “before the beginning began the Word (God) was.” The beginning is the big bang and God predates that so God is the Big Banger. The cosmos because it has a beginning, middle and an end will eventually be done away with. This is verified in scripture. God will, He said, roll it up as a used garment and pitch it out.

Revelation 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Space and time are part of a unified whole BUT are also part of a “cosmic evolving.” That is, they are relative to each other. The natural world works at one level and the cosmic at another. Scientists want to unify this but they can’t.

Here is their unified theory. Scripture makes this clear in Colossians which says “God is all in all” and He is the “glue that holds the universe together.” This is not pantheism. God is no more in His creation than a woman is in a pie she bakes. He has a purpose for the universe. It is the training ground for human kind, their correction and eventual eternal life someplace else. The cosmos is not an end in itself; it is just a tool. The unification is the purpose for which the universe exists.

Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven

The eventual goals God has for man also explain the ”arrow of time.” Greene wonders why, if time and space go both ways, why you cannot unbreak eggs; once they are broken, no amount of action or prayer can turn them back to eggs inside shells. This truth about the universe flies in the face of the other physical evidence. But it makes sense according to the Bible. God has a plan and He put it into motion at the beginning.

We don’t turn back because there is no reason to do so. Moses was able to look at God’s back, not the front, because he (Moses) is supposed to be facing the future. If he looks at God’s front his view is of the past. This is the arrow of time. You will recall your personal dreams are of the present and future; you will notice that dreams can explain the past but never change it. You and the cosmos are not going backward. “Back to the Future” is a movie drama, and nothing more.

The 3rd reason quantum physics is confused is because it puts the cart, the natural, before the horse, the spiritual. If you want to understand what is really happening look to the spiritual reality behind it. If you want to know why a dictator is killing his citizens, find out what wild mental problem he has, narcissism, ego mania, even insanity. Far too much time is spent looking at symptoms and causes are ignored. Quantum Physics wants to explain the reality before it explains the spiritual but science does that.

The 4th problem is the flexible nature of time. Here is where the most casual of scientists can figure things out. Time appears to be uniform but it is not. It not only goes only forward, it also has different values and meanings depending on the living. When you are young time goes very slowly. “Are we there yet?” every 5 miles. Children also have a misapprehension of space. Talk of the Gulf War frightened some children until their dad asked them to remember how long it took to drive to grandma’s house, and that this war was over 15 days away. The children breathed a sigh of relief. They were learning relativity at an early age.

Then at old age days fly by. Where did it go? If this can happen in the life of everyman, why can’t we apply this to the life of the universe? It started fast and is slowing down. In fact isn’t that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics? That the world is slowing down and wearing out, just as we do. This law also states that there is no going backwards as in the arrow of time. God has made it clear that we are all goal oriented.

But this leads to another question scientists need to re-examine – the law of entropy. Carbon dating standards appear set in some kind of inexplicable bronze. Current values are a product of Newtonian physics, not Einsteinium. But the world itself shows the effect of mistaken time. Originally lifetimes were hundreds of years, now 100 is uncommon. Of course we recognize the influence of medicine here, but there is a sense in which things external are deteriorating. Man’s sweep of influence increases with his knowledge and power, but environmentally there is increasing decay.

The final issue in modern physics is string-theory which they call dimensions. A dimension is where someone or something can exist, and into which we might want to travel. Any real dimension has, in fact, dimensions, i.e. length, breath, width. People who have seen angels say they have gender, color, and bulk, hardly a string. But to the physicist, it may look like a string. All humans have personality which also is invisible. That too could be a string in which case there are 7 billion strings on the planet today. My personality will live forever after I die so who is to say it is not an as yet an unidentified string.

There is no reason to assume these dimensions are inanimate objects or places. They are more likely to be personalities. The first being to show up in the cosmos was a personality – God. Other persons, that is beings, that have Will, Intellect, and Emotion soon followed. Angels have personalities, which surely is one dimension; animals have Will, Intellect and Emotion too – they clearly are in another dimension. Other places where Will, Intellect and Emotion exist is in our dreams, our drug-induced visions, demonic spirits and demons, and possibly other beings identified as having personality. I think of the stars which sing.

You can say this is literary license, but the Bible says, “Thy word is truth.” So let us not be so cavalier in our interpretation. The stars sing. It does not say the star has a song; player pianos have songs. Singing is done by beings.

Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Isaiah said mountains sing.

In fact we can count sound as a dimension too. “No sound is without signification” which means a door slam, a dog bark or a brisk breeze means something. It may not have eternal meaning but it does mean something.

1 Corinthians 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

David said he would prophesy, that is bring a message from God, on his harp (actually probably a guitar.) July 17, 2012, a guitarist on Kim Clement TV was “prophesying.” No interpretation was given and I did not get one, but the people there seemed to understand. Clearly this is a dimension we must not ignore.

Sting theory says there is no empty space in space, that something is there but what? The ancient Hebrews were not given to speculation but we modern Christians are. What if string theory is the mesh like reality of personalities in concert. Stay tuned. We have more research to do.

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
