How could Jesus Die for Everyone

cross-106416__180The scripture is clear.  Jesus paid the price for every man’s sin by the blood shed at his death.   But because of the limitations of life, He could not actually give his life literally for every person.  If that were so He would need to be born, mature and then die for billions upon billions of people, the exact number we do not know.  We do know that the number of souls God created in heaven prior to our birth is huge.  So literal birth-death is physically impossible.

How then could Jesus die for each Man and still die for mankind as a whole?

Jesus made a deal

It was done by negotiation.  Consider that you have a large piece of acreage for sale.  No one else is bidding on it.  Satan already has his claws into the property and will not give it up; in fact he has sole custody thanks to egregious mistakes by Adam.  (And lest we congratulate ourselves remember that we would have been just as rebellious as the First Pair.) The human race is both physically and spiritually doomed.

Since Jesus could not be born billions of times, He would need to negotiate the price.  From the foundation of the world Elohim (God in Hebrew) counseled together to select “the agreed upon price.”  The price was high.  The sacrifice must be absolutely sinless, the very opposite of the condition of Man, and he should be born just as anyone else and go through life reacting to evil in perfect, sinless obedience.  The Old Testament law regarding sacrifices is not a bore if you notice how the priests followed the very process by which a sacrifice was selected.  Jesus fit perfectly.

Can you image what a hard test this is? Look at your tot in a high chair, crying “MINE!” at the top of his lungs.  Rebellion is deep in the heart of man, no matter the size.  He is not a bad child; he is merely human.  (Proverbs 22:15) It comes with the territory.

The perfect plan required that the savior be born sinless without the taint of human error.  Mary, Jesus’ mother, did not have to be sinless because the  Sin is transferred through the father’s line….. You know, like father, like son. (Genesis 3:17)

The only way a sinless child can be brought forth is if the Father is God Himself, guaranteeing that the DNA of this child is unique in all the universe.  Then the blood also would be sinless.  Satan can’t fake that – ever, which is why the Kingdom of Evil fell apart in despair after realizing it had engineered the salvation of man and its own demise as well. (1 Cor 2:8)

Tetelestai

So that is why Jesus can say at the very end, “It is finished.”  The word in Greek is tetelestai, meaning Paid in Full. You too were included in this number.

Are you automatically saved? No.  Not until you have a heart change and accept His free gift of eternal life. Today is the day of salvation.

Elohim – The First Name of God

Elohim is a combination of two words – El, which means “high up,” and “im” which is a plural. For example, “dag” is Hebrew for fish, and “dagim” means fishes. Christians recognize this as a reference to the Trinity, or Jesus, Holy Spirit and Creator God. But in fact we must recognize the creator God as a multifaceted intelligence.

The first reference to elohim is:

Genesis 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

Genesis is Hebrew for “Book of Beginnings.”

For our minds it is hard to conceptualize a God so huge that he is completely outside of a multi-billion-light-year-mile-space-time universe. But that is where the Eternal God is and what He began so long ago.

The Bible says that all men know this God in their “hearts.” It comes with being human. But it is hard to imagine a God like this, so Jesus said,

John 14:9 CEV Jesus replied: Philip, I have been with you for a long time. Don’t you know who I am? If you have seen me, you have seen the Father. How can you ask me to show you the Father?

It is many thousands of years from Moses writing down the creation story to Jesus and now to our day, but it is a continuous revelation of truth, precept upon precept, line upon line. We study the life of Jesus simply because studying God the Creator is so very hard.

Etymology of God’s Name

In China the name for creator God is “ShangDi.” I asked little children when I was there, what is God’s name? And that is what they told me without hesitation. So you see, atheism is not born into anyone.

The term is two words, Shang means “high above.” Shanghai is a city “above the waters.” “Di” for leader or ruler. Isn’t it interesting that in the three most popular languages on earth, Spanish, English and Chinese, the name of God includes the sound “di” – dios, (Spanish) dieu (French), divinity (English).

We have no record of the language they spoke before the tower of Babel when God came down and scrambled the languages, but we can guess that the word “DI” was there for the Most High God. I was once told the Hindus have 30 million gods so I do not include them in onomastics.

And that is the first thing God wants us to know – that He organized, created and revealed the universe to us and will continue to do so until the end of time when He wraps up history and goes on to a whole new program.

Cosmology and a creator God

So when we see the word Elohim we are to remember that the universe did not originate from sea water or tiny amoebae but because someone wanted a place to share with His People, plain and simple.

‘Til Christ be Formed in You

God woke me up at 2 a.m. and I watched most of this program that I found listed below on TV.

LIFE ON THE ISLAND OF JESUS – Premiering February 16, 2020 on ABC-affiliated stations. The true story of missionary pastor, Scott Campbell, whose ambitious dreams for ministry success crash into a disinterested spiritual culture, driving him into clinical depression and to the brink of suicide. The film explores how God uses great difficulties over time to transform followers of Jesus into new creations.

Why are you a Christian? What is God’s purpose for His being in your life? Perhaps you thought it was to be a good father, or wife, or seamstress, or lawyer, or landscaper? This TV show presents another viewpoint, quoting

Paul Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.

So God’s goal for saving you is to see you, as a “new creature in Christ,” take on the nature of Jesus. This is not about being a Christian carpenter, the professional Jesus, not a Christian preacher, the words of Jesus, not a Christian doctor, the profile of Jesus’ saving human bodies, but the formation of the nature of an internal Christ.

What will that nature be – a sacrificial one, a warrior person, a healing nature, a teaching profile? Clearly we do not know. Some of us think our job as a believer is to survive, surely now as the believers come under increasing attacks, but no. It is not about what you become to yourself, but what you become to Him.

For seven billion people on this planet, and He is Lord God over them all, the answer will be different, as different as their DNA. I don’t know. Do you? But I am going to find out if I can because I want to be in the center of God’s will.

A Word from the Bible about Alcohol

There are many denominations that preach against alcohol. It can be a life-threatening addiction. It killed off my mother, my father and my husband. Nevertheless it is not the product but the usage. Nothing is dangerous unless used in excess.

Everything God made is good. Too many video games, too much TV, too much alcohol, too much time on your cell phone, excessive listening to music, excessive anything – is flat wrong because life is about balance.

But now to answer your question. Jesus was a guest at a wedding and when the wine ran out he asked his mother to see that the servants filled great vats with water which He then turned to wine.

John 2:5- 10 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each.

7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.”

So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him.

9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom,

10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

No, we don’t have proof here at Jesus actually drank any of this wine himself, but if it was wrong would he have provided it for others? In all things we have free will.

We are not under law but grace. When we live foolishly the Law comes back to remind us that we didn’t use good judgment. There are people sitting in jail today because they used the grace of God foolishly and drank too much. And their “will” was suddenly placed at the mercy of the police. Decisions have consequences. If you fail to control yourself you can be sure the “state” will come in and control you until you learn your lesson. I worked with prisoners for many years, and that is the lesson they had to learn.

Saying this passage is about spiritual things, or only for the end of time places meanings on it which are not in the original.  Yes, it is possible to see spiritual application in this passage, but that is true of every other Bible passage as well.  It is possible to spiritualize something so much that you lose the plain meaning of it.  That makes you the judge and jury over what God said, and that can’t work. Picking and choosing what you believe is called heresy.

If you know you are not supposed to drink you do not need me to tell you that; if you want to drink, you do not need Jesus telling you it is OK. And in any event, you do not need to stop drinking to get to heaven.

Salvation is about believing that Jesus died for your sins, not you stopping drinking and then getting yourself saved because you did.  Many churches believe that drinking is a sin, but no matter what you believe, you are not saved by doctrine. And you are not saved by what you do or not do.

The old gospel tune, Trust and Obey, is still the path of life.  If God told you not to drink, then that is your command.  And He expects obedience. And think how easy that is. He hasn’t asked you to come up with $10,000 dollars?

The decision, to drink or not, is yours. But the results are also yours. Be wise, be cautious. Life is more than food and drink. Jesus said that too.

The Difference between Fellowship & Relationship

Moderns bandy about their “relationships” which sounds so arcane to older folks. We had friends, family, spouses, and neighbors in the old days. They speak of relationships as being very close but in actual fact relationships are more likely to be apart or at least at some distance. To speak of someone you have close relationships with is actually called fellowship. Perhaps you heard it too much in church and think it is only for religion.

Here is a scripture that can easily be misunderstood which demonstrates the difference. From Luke:

The Prodigal Son

11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

The son had a relationship to his father. He was a son and he didn’t stop being his son when he went off on his bender. We can have relationships by blood, as a son-father, or by marriage, or by corporate agreement and other contracts. I have a relationship to the companies in which I have stock. I have a relationship to my country as a native born citizen, taxpayer and voter. You can have a relationship with your animals because you are legally responsible for their care, but in all these cases you do not necessarily have fellowship.

I have no fellowship with the managers of my stock purchases. If I think the company is a bad investment, I sell the stock but I never speak to anyone about it nor would I want to. I have a a relationship to the colleges where I graduated but I haven’t been back for many decades.

Fellowship is personal. My husband, my closest relationship and my closest fellowship when he was alive is long gone. My children have grown and gone and we have fellowship on Facebook. My church is 150 miles west of here so I have no more fellowship with them although I still have my name on the books, hence relationship.

When a military man is deployed he still has relationships at home but his fellowship is now with his military unit. Thank heavens for the internet and Skype.

Now, about Yahweh. You can be saved (relationship) but still have very little fellowship with Him. I know many Christians who have virtually no fellowship with him. I will ask them, “Did you pray about this?” They’ll say, “Oh I am not going to bother Yahweh with something as small as that.”

I won’t sermonize here, but Yahweh makes it plain that he is especially interested in fellowship. He says, “Come let us reason together.” He wants to talk and explain stuff to you. He says, “I will never leave you,” but how many people can appreciate that in daily life?

If you have questions the Bible has answers but it means reading parts you may never look at. Yahweh uses the Bible to speak directly to people. Of course you have time. You just must take it from some other place where you are using it. As long as you are alive you have time. In fact that is what life is – the time you are here.

If you get with Yahweh this year, He might give you a big party!

Symbolism of the Human Body

It’s taken me four decades to understand this passage in Corinthians in reference to a communion service of believers. But it was walked out in my life in a dramatic manner.

1 Cor 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

Sleep means to die in verse 30. To understand what this means, let’s examine what it does not say. It does not say to fail to discern a Christian, or a friend, or a believer, or a baptized person or the devil himself. It says failure to discern, not the Lord Himself, but His Body.

Who is the Body of Christ?

That’s us. But more importantly the “us” is not just Harold, Jenny and Roy, but to recognize the part of Christ’s body where Harold, Jenny and Roy function.

People totally outside the church of Jesus certainly know them in their stores, social groups and offices. But this situation is unique; that is when we as believers take on the garment of being “Christ to the world.”

About 40 years ago my husband walked in the house at supper and said, “The Lord told me that you are a liver in the body of Christ.” I smiled because Jesus had already shown me that. And in case you’re interested the liver is hidden and it does something no one like to see – filter out all the junk that goes through the body. In fact, this little blog has spent many years filtering out false teaching and corrupted understanding in Christian circles.

The liver

The liver is corrective. Livers do not add Christians to the Body of Christ; they don’t sing, they don’t run the front office; they just react to what is passing through. As you can tell, I am not necessarily a popular figure. “Oh dear – here comes the liver. What kind of crap have I swallowed now!” they worry.

But enough of my complaints. Let’s look at this in a practical manner. To bring up sickness and possible death for some believer-behavior, esp. in the New Testament is quite rare. We must pay attention.

Bones & Skin

Consider what bodies have: Bones hold a shape. Bones in scripture are symbols of priests, not Catholic ones, just people who lead and make the body upright. Then there is skin which symbolizes faith. Faith completely surrounds a body because you need to believe for your backside, past, the present, and the front, the future, what is below the feet and above the head. You are encased in faith.

The lungs

The lungs take in the word of God. My pal Jack reminded me that God only breathes out, never in. That is our breath too. Breath symbolizes Holy Spirit bringing in required oxygen which allows the body to exercise all its internal and external functions. That air is the immediate word of God, the ruach (Hebrew).

Human beings require air; spiritual man requires God’s present word to survive. We need a mouth, which symbolizes a prophet, eyes which symbolize seers (people who see) and ears symbolizing a group who hear the Lord. Hands and feet bring the gospel; they serve as mercy ministers and take the Body where Holy Spirit wants it to go.

Gall Bladder & Thyroid

The gall bladder removes bitterness, the kidney filters out water impurities, and the thyroid regulates the body. Have you ever been in a church or Bible study/prayer group where one person takes over? That is an unregulated group. That is a body that has failed to recognize the other parts of Christ’s body. And that is what can lead to sickness and even death. The thyroid is a regulator.

Six years ago a church leader banished me from the meetings as a false teacher. I’d never been confronted this way; most people just condemned me behind my back. (Or, avoided me if they have an issue.) A year later she ended up in the hospital three times with strokes. NO – I had not prayed against her. Jesus told his disciples not to do that – to leave judgment to Him.

I was just as surprised as you are. She had failed to recognize a part of His Body. Then later on a man who assumed some spiritual leadership in this same group, heaped contempt on me; I was astonished. Same deal – he did not recognize my place in the Body. After nine months he was gone! The group rebuked him.

Then some other spiritual leaders rebuked me for being “unforgiving.” They too had failed to see what was going on. As a 40 year veteran of the mission field, I’d never had any trouble seeing who was whom in a group. It’s part of the job.

God is just as interested in Fiji Islanders as he is Texans, and He is quite able to call and fit them into a Christian body in their home town. But friends in the American church had no experience with diverse people, ministries or God’s calls on individuals. I feel as though I have made a giant leap forward in understanding what God wants for the future of His People.

Clearly Church, we need to start making this part of the New Testament real. Jesus is not coming back for an unruly mob, a quarreling faction or a self-righteous bunch of over-educated, self-absorbed believers. He is coming for a team that knows, like a body, how to work together. That is our future.

The Curse of Eli – the Bad Father

1 Samuel 3:14  And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

This is about iniquity, Yahweh holding persons accountable for the problems they cause in the lives of others. It is not the same thing as sin or sins.

In bold face are the sins committed by Eli and his two sons. These days we see a lot of rebellious sons but usually they are not in the ministry. And that is the key to the judgment of death on this pair – not that they were wicked, but that they used the holy things of Yahweh for evil, selfish purposes.

A Hard Life with Many Tears

22-25 By this time Eli was very old. He kept getting reports on how his sons were ripping off the people and sleeping with the women who helped out at the sanctuary. Eli took them to task: “What’s going on here? Why are you doing these things? I hear story after story of your corrupt and evil carrying on. Oh, my sons, this is not right! These are terrible reports I’m getting, stories spreading right and left among God’s people! If you sin against another person, there’s help—God’s help. But if you sin against God, who is around to help?”

25-26 But they were far gone in disobedience and refused to listen to a thing their father said. So God, who was fed up with them, decreed their death. But the boy Samuel was very much alive, growing up, blessed by God and popular with the people.

27-30 A holy man came to Eli and said: “This is God’s message: I revealed myself openly to your ancestors when they were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. Out of all the tribes of Israel, I chose your family to be my priests: to preside at the Altar, to burn incense, to wear the priestly robes in my presence. I put your ancestral family in charge of all the sacrificial offerings of Israel. So why do you now treat as mere loot these very sacrificial offerings that I commanded for my worship? Why do you treat your sons better than me, turning them loose to get fat on these offerings, and ignoring me? Therefore—this is God’s word, the God of Israel speaking—I once said that you and your ancestral family would be my priests indefinitely, but now—God’s word, remember!—there is no way this can continue.

I honor those who honor me;
those who scorn me I demean.

31-36 “Be well warned: It won’t be long before I wipe out both your family and your future family. No one in your family will make it to old age! You’ll see good things that I’m doing in Israel, but you’ll see it and weep, for no one in your family will live to enjoy it. I will leave one person to serve at my Altar, but it will be a hard life, with many tears. Everyone else in your family will die before their time. What happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be the proof: Both will die the same day.

Many preachers say Christians can’t go to hell

Maybe they have not read this passage.  If you misuse the holy things of Yahweh in church or in public the curse of Eli is on you and your family. The New Testament repeat this warning in the book of Hebrews 6. Both Old and New Testament passages therefore verify that yes, it is possible to lose your salvation.

Yahweh judges poor parenting

Yahweh requires fathers to properly discipline their children, especially sons, as they are more likely to learn from fathers than mothers. Throughout the Old Testament the mothers and grandmothers of kings and leaders were identified not only by their fathers but also by their mothers and even grandmothers. Yahweh is demonstrating that individuals will receive judgment or praise from Yahweh for how they raise their children.

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 [c]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

There are hosts of critics of TV preachers and others. I always advise them to keep their mouths shut about this.  If these people are under the curse of Eli your being involved will do you no good, and not help them either. This curse also includes early death for the following generations, a warning to all those who serve the Lord in an official capacity.

Open criticism of Yahweh’s servants can get you in a heap of trouble as well. It can backfire so you must be disciplined, both you and your family, or stay away from ministry entirely. Yahweh is serious about this or we would not know about this.

If you have been victimized by religious people know this – Yahweh will avenge this in the end. It took years for the pedophilia in the Catholic Church to be addressed in the public square. Many ministers have hid their behavior, not the least being addiction to pornography – but it will all be exposed.  Yahweh said, first His people and then those outside.

And it is happening.

Damnable and Non-Damnable Heresies

There are heresies and then there are “damnable heresies.” Heresy means “to choose what you believe.” Yahweh has chosen what we are to believe and to make it simple He also supervised the writing of a book, The Holy Bible, available in almost every spoken language. When in doubt, check the book.

Most heresies will not send you to hell. And more importantly even some things people think are required are also not a problem, like food laws, required festivals, and recognition of certain days, including Sabbath-keeping.  All these are external.

A. Damnable Heresies

  1. Any belief that places the death of something other than Yahshua as a sacrifice for sin
    2. Ultimate reconciliation – eventually even the devil and his angels are saved.
    3. Annihilation Theories – when you die you cease to exist in any form.
    4. Reincarnation – you are born again as another person or being.
    5. Belief in any theory that makes Yahshua not really Yahweh at any point in his life or death
    6. Belief in any theory that does not recognize the blood of Yahshua as the agent to cover sin
    7. Belief in any theory that does not require repentance and confession of faith.
    8. Committing the unpardonable sin – rejecting the person of Christ
    9. Belief in any theory that puts Yahshua as an equal to other gods, including Allah, Buddha, etc.
  2. Any religious system which denies in practice the existence of sin, since the personal recognition of personal sin is a requirement for salvation.
  3. One religious group says you must be married to be saved and if you divorce you end up in hell.  Besides being ridiculous and not scriptural, it is also laughable as anyone who has ever been married knows.
  4. Rapture theories are divisive and since no one can prove his position at the present time adherence to any one interpretation is not a litmus test for salvation.

B. Non Damnable heresies, nonsense theories

  1. Any theory which claims you receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to be saved, or water baptism or any process that requires additional performance.
  2. Yahshua paid the price for all sins of all men if they accept his sacrifice for their own sins – murder abortion, witchcraft, adultery, theft and sex sins and, most importantly if they also repent.  Mere confession is not adequate.  I have heard many a person weep over their sins but, it was for public show and the heart was not right.  “With the heart man believes unto righteousness, and confession is made unto salvation.”
  3. Belief in only part of the Bible – Many people believe the Bible in part. While this does not keep you out of heaven it proportionally reduces your blessings in this life and in the next.
  4. Hyper-grace theories say that once you are saved  any additional sin is automatically forgiven.  This is wishful thinking and makes the grace of Yahweh something of a joke.
  5. Amulets, relics and other religious items have no effect on one’s salvation but relying on them can keep you from learning the truth and may become an idol.
  6. Reading alternate religious books, such as the Da Vinci Code, may not damn you but they are confusing and enforce the “traditions of men” which Yahshua condemned.

Given men’s ability to concoct lies, there may be other heresies I’ve missed, but this is a start.

How to read through the Bible in a Year without losing heart

Print this out an place in your favorite Bible. Decide now that you will get up a half hour before everyone else and get this reading done before you start your day. once you get in the habit you will never give it up.

If you read the Bible through cover to cover, and I’ve done it often, you may get bogged down in Deuteronomy or Leviticus, so I recommend you start with the New King James version, which is the one most often quoted, and I’d read The Message for all the historical books, Chronicles, Kings, and Samuel.

Try to skip around the other books reading those chapters that have come up in discussion or a sermon.

Let’s say your minister speaks on Ben-Hadad.  He is a wicked King of Syria and Syria’s wickedness is at the top of our current news.  You can look up chapters on this man by going to Bible Gateway

If you get up early in the morning to do this, the thoughts you read will filter through your brain during the day and keep your mind off how broke you are.

After you read a chapter check off the number at the chapter heading. If you read 3 chapters each day and 5 on the weekends you should be done in a year. One Psalm each day will take 5 months. Now that doesn’t sound so hard, does it?

Remember 3 chapters a day and 5 on the weekends = 1 year.

“Replacement” Theology and the 2 Israels

Behind everything that is wrong in this world there is a lie lurking in the bushes of belief.

“Supersessionism (also called fulfillment theology and replacement theology) is the belief that the Christian Church supersedes or replaces the Israelites in God’s plan, and that the New Covenant nullifies the biblical promises made to the children of Israel, including the “Abrahamic Covenant, the Land Covenant, and the Davidic Covenant” according to Wikipedia.

For many years, as the Jews were scattered over the face of the planet, one could almost believe that, esp. if they ignored the writings in the Old Testament.

God’s word on this, and on all matters regarding His Word, is in stone.

The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

2 Corinthians 1:20 [Full Chapter]
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! Galatians 3:21

2 Peter 1:4 (God has) given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,

No wonder the first thing we are told as believers is to study the Bible!

All the promises of Yahweh are for all time, all the promises to Israel, to Christians and to the wicked, including wicked nations. Period. Have you ever wondered why Muslim nations have little other than money, and even their oil is running out? They curse Israel and the curse of Yahweh (Genesis 12:3) rests on them.

There are over 32,000 Bible verses and they stand forever. There are promises to a natural people, The Jews, and another set of promises for the spiritual people, the Christians. The Jews have a homeland, Israel, and the Christians have a home in heaven. Jews occupy their land; we are ambassadors for Christ while on earth, and are merely sojourners on earth.

When in 1948 the Jewish homeland reappeared after a 2,000 year hiatus (the Palestinians never did have a home land there, although they’d like to think so) any belief in replacement theology should have disappeared. In an almost magical fashion, the nation was preserved during impossible attacks from the 600,000 Muslims surrounding this tiny country the size of New Jersey. Since that time the restoration of this nation is an economic miracle.

Military men do not study the wildly successful history of Jewish military success because there are too many miracles associated with them. There is a set of videos on this topic available from Amazon called “Against All Odds.”

God gave the land of Israel with its capital Jerusalem to the Jews; He gave new Israel (the Christians) the new city of Jerusalem in heaven. On earth Christians are travelers or sojourners with no particular landed home.

There is a Biblical penalty for believing in replacement theology or anything that takes away Yahweh’s promises. It’s called a curse as Yahweh told Abraham:

Genesis 12:3
3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

You cannot be more plain than that! {for curses see Deuteronomy 28}

Islam believes it is they who replace the Israelites. They have plans to defeat Israel and re-name it Ishmael. They have no entitlement to the land, and neither do the Palestinians who have never had a ruler in that land. Most of them were nomads from Jordan. Jordan is a nice country; maybe they could return.

And for related material see my blog, Why Muslims think they are entitled to the land of Israel, which is one of the top three of my posts.

Why does Islam (the Muslims) think they are entitled to the land of Israel?

What I Wish I’d Known at 30

Learn how to think

People on the whole do not know how to think.  They know what they know and how to do what they do but when an emotional turmoil comes, the buggy comes off the rails. One student thought she looked better in pink rather than green and called that thinking. That is an opinion. Opinions may or may not be thought out.

What is out there includes slander, libel, accusations, polls, statistics, bias, emotions, mind control, deception, lies, delusion, bias, unverified information, cultural norms, conspiracy theories, and sales pitches. All demanding we think about them! Learning what your mind must trash is an urgent need.

And  people who hire and fire are unaware of these incipient problems in personnel, nor do they see it in themselves. When the minister runs off with the piano player they are shocked.  They should not be. It is a pattern of dealing with some other problem, not the one they believe it to be.

What principle do we work under

A man recently widowed told my son “Women come out of the woodwork when they know you are single.” Both men and women may think that their problems can be solved by something that does not solve problems. In the case of men, sex, and in the case of women, having a male around, is the answer to their problem. It is not.

No relationship no matter how positive solved any problem. Quite the contrary. Any new relationship in your life, good or bad, complicates things for you. Another solution is drugs or drink. Again, the cure creates a new disease more damaging than the original.

The search for the “new”

Another principle people cling to is the notion that they need a new (1) job (2) President (3) house or location (4) hobby (5) church or religion (drug or medicine) and I could extend this. I’ve know people who believe their problems are caused by Hispanics, or blacks or white people. I’ve worked with people who think the system they work in is flawed, that the debt level of the nation is the problem, that the water supply is contaminated or that there is a conspiracy to ruin the nation, the state, everything.

Please know that there are conspiracies everywhere at every time. The Catholic church wanted to kill Martin Luther but friends helped him escape. Many of England’s kings thought someone was trying to kill them. That went on for several hundred years and was true. No, the papacy is not your enemy. It is called life.

People get snookered by lies, by promises, by bad checks, by slander and libel. The Bible calls this “the daily evil.”

Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Life is not an end in itself

Life is the process of preparing for living eternally some place else. Years ago there was a popular song which intoned, “I’m going to live forever.” The lyrics were from “Fame,” a Broadway musical.

You will live forever

Of course you will live forever. It is built into the life you are now living. But where? In China, atheism is the state religion and required if you are a member of the Communist Party.

I was surprised to learn that Chairman Mao, the man who brought communism to China, believed in an afterlife. He bragged about going to a Chinese heaven with Karl Marx and other prominent communist leaders. He talked openly about the Christian heaven for Americans and white people.

When I asked small children what was God’s name they told me immediately, Shang Di, which means the person “Above all,” no different from our American definition.

The belief in an afterlife dominates human kind. But just where will that be? Those are decisions you make here. Blessed is the man who learns that early on.

God’s Ace in the Hole

For my foreign readers, an “ace in the hole” is a hidden advantage or resource kept in reserve until needed. The word comes from the game of poker where the Ace of Spades is the highest valued card in the deck.  acespadesin hole

Yahweh requires Man to enter heaven based on the law – that is, he must acknowledge his belief in Yahweh by faith and through repentance (changing his mind about himself and his condition) and confession of Yahshua as Lord he now has access to what evangelists call saved.  But as you might suspect, there are many who seem to slip into heaven by some back door.

God is Himself not under a Law

Yahweh is not under Law.  While He has promised to make good on all His word, He also has some private caveats of His own.

Yahweh keeps as His prerogative the choice of whom He will bless. The most well-known of these are the Beatitudes in Matthew which list the many ways Yahweh blesses.

Yahshua  said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, (this refers to those who know they need spiritual infilling)
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, (the meek means those people who do not exert their will on God)
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
This is God’s ace in the hole.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Yahweh also has special blessings for orphans and widows.

Special blessings allow God to by pass His laws

In actual fact many of these blessings, plus others throughout the Bible allow Yahweh to step in. The Jews realize that Yahweh saves some gentiles and refers to them as “righteous Gentiles” i.e. those whom Yahweh has approved but who have lived outside His formal law.

A person who ministers mercy to others is one  special category. A passage where this applies can be found in Acts 10 where Cornelius, a man who honored the Jewish Yahweh but who was not biologically a Jew, was visited by Peter who brought the baptism in the Holy Spirit to Cornelius and his entire household.

The Baptism is the New Testament sign of being under the covenant of Grace. That is, they were taken into the family of Yahweh despite their birth status and they received all that Yahweh had for them based on this man’s righteous acts.

BUT, what if Cornelius and his household had lived 100 years previously?

There would be no Peter to take the message, and no crucifixion of Yahshua to open up the New Testament and His Church.  Nevertheless, on the basis of mercy Yahweh would have accepted Cornelius and his house.  This is why I, as a missionary, did not tell people their relatives were in hell.  I don’t know the mind of Yahweh on the subject, and the living, not the dead, are my responsibility in any event.

Why ministers say, “May God have mercy on his soul.”

At the end of many a funeral service the minister intones, “May God have mercy on his soul.”  This is the minister’s way of pulling up this ace.  If this person has not been living right, and the minister may even be a stranger to the dearly departed, he asks Yahweh to consider mercy and maybe Yahweh will.

But, if you are not walking right, don’t count on it.

Exodus 33:19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

So it all boils down to His will.

The Five Worldviews

Political philosophy is based on assumptions about the nature of man. I mean here “Man” as generic not as gender/male.

The Western Worldview

Western governments assumed that man is an imperfect being and that he arrives on the planet flawed, and will live out his life doing both good and evil according to his education, genes, and environment. Judeo-Christian theology follows this assumption and Western governments worked on this premise ever since.

Kings, that is power brokers, took over because that is what power does, but after England (and Europe) went through centuries of wretched leaders and their cavorting, the Americans said no more, and devised a government based on this same assumption that man was not only flawed but that he required a government that recognized the flaws in all men and balanced out their lust and ambitions in planning governance, hence the US Constitution.

The Eastern Worldview

Eastern Man believes that humans are born into a system with a set position in the social order. Up until the Communist revolution in China, baby girls were not given names unless they were born into the aristocracy. Common folk named their girls Sister 1, Sister 2, etc. Communist egalitarianism stopped that. Women were now equal. (Aristocratic girls always were equal.) And everyone was part of a social class where they were stuck forever.

Chairman Mao didn’t do a lot of good but that change was smart. He also required a common language instead of the mishmash of dialects, a change which helped China to enter the wider world. Communism in China broke up the rigidity of this social order.

The Communist Worldview

The third political philosophy and view of man was given voice by Karl Marx who regarded everyone as having no spiritual dimension, but only an economic motive for being alive and staying alive. Philosophically this was founded on the Darwinian doctrine of original creation by evolution, a doctrine which is dying a death with the extensive advances in science. Evolution has only been verified as being inside creation not outside of it after 150 years plus.

But at the time it supported the idea that humans had no life after death and were only interested in the comforts of the flesh. And Europe, always being in a state of flux, sopped it up as well as many other nations where rigid leadership kept them in poverty and want. Communism eliminates at least philosophically any moral code which sounds like fun for a while, but eventually anarchy takes over and the dissolution of a society.

Communism is based on “bait and switch”

The promise of communist leaders are the same as those of democracies everywhere – freedom of movement, choice and prosperity on your own effort. But the reality is always the same – control by a small group of masters whose first job is to take away the guns. Of course! That way dissidents cannot challenge the new masters. Eventually disillusionment of the entire population occurs and the society begins to deteriorate. The present (2020) state of Russia is a good example of how a society loses at all points after it has embraced a false promise.

Disillusionment in China began in 1989, and the on-going protest in Hong Kong is a continuation of Tienanmen Square’s protests that year. People are not stupid; decades of failure proves the point that communism is a failure and then there are decades working out of the very ditch they dug.

So communism was temporarily successful in many areas but because it failed to recognize the spiritual natural of man, has continued to decay as a choice. The visible collapse of communism in Hong Kong, China is a good example. It does not work for the modern world.

The Islamic Worldview

The Middle Eastern nations believe in the evil nature of man but Islam, which has its roots in Judaism, adds to that the doctrine that Islam will take over the entire world. You can see that this theology is not going to work for the balance of the planet. Most nations will fight off any takeover if they have the firepower.

Worldviews in Isolation

Some isolated societies were not touched by these assumptions. The Quechua Indians thought everyone was evil and going to eat them. Groups like this can’t last. They become destroyed by their own fear. Eskimo tribes lived isolated lives in great harmony, but these exceptions were always small.

There are your choices. You’ll notice it is all based on a belief about the nature of man. As long as these worldviews are in conflict we cannot and will not have international peace and harmony. Nations and individuals act and react based on what they believe in their heart of hearts.

The Bible says simply, “The heart of man is evil above all things and desperately wicked.” And this situation is the cause of wars and conflict from the lowest to the highest level of society.

The lesson we can learn from this is to identify our assumptions because the future of our own lives and that of our fellows will be determined by the one we choose.

How to Understand the Bible

One scripture does not make a theology

The number one is not a sum; it’s a lone number. Twelve is also a number.  Neither number is a sum.

But 1 and 1 = 2, and 10 and 2 = 12, hence a sum. Simple huh?

Here’s the key. The Bible itself says that the “sum of thy worth is truth.” This is found in the most accurate translation of the Bible, the New American Standard Bible.

Psalm 119:160
The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

In order for you to get a sum you will need two separate scriptures, and preferably three. When you have two or more scriptures working together you have a theology.

For example, the Bible says that Yahshua came to save the whole world, which indeed He did. But that is not a sum. If you believe that alone you might walk away thinking Yahshua saves everyone on planet earth.

You also need to know that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. That is called a conditional phrase. It adds a condition which man must meet before he is saved. So the sum of that is that everyone on the planet can be saved if he/she believes and you now have a tenet of theology. It’s a start. Put many tenets together and you get a creed.

Conditions apply to understanding

In fact virtually everything in the Bible has a condition attached to it. And that condition is faith. We must accept what Yahweh says by faith and then act upon that faith. Once we do, Yahweh confirms His word to us.

John 7:17 If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.

Believe first then see the results

Here is an example of conditional scriptures. “If you continue in my word you are my disciples indeed and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

I can’t tell you how many people tell me – you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Notice they substituted “set” for “make.”  “Set” indicates an event; “make” denotes a process. It takes time for you to be free as anyone who has tried to kick a habit will tell you.

Do not substitute your own word

But never mind. The real problem is they forgot the conditional part -IF.

Now you can start reading the whole Bible and not just parts, the parts you like. Watch the exact words exactly. Don’t patch in your own ideas and before long you’ll know what you are talking about.

Here is an example of taking one passage and ignoring another passage on the same point.  The Amish have separated themselves deliberately from the rest of the world. They refuse to use many modern conveniences; their dress and modes of transportation are different from the Americans, that they refer to as “English.”

Here is the passage they site:

Romans 12:2, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,

This part of the verse the Amish obey. but the rest of the verse is:

so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

And this last half of the verse they ignore.  Obeying Yahweh may mean to be an airline pilot, a translator for the United Nations, or a beautician in Hollywood.  The call of Yahweh and obedience take precedence over any calls to making personal and corporate holiness more worthy than obedience.

Here is where many of us stumble. Not just the Amish. It is very easy to make things and rules more important than the inner man. Yahweh, after all, looks on the heart not on the outside. A heart can be pure, while on the outside a person works for a garbage collection agency. Yahweh does not want us focusing on externals. We will do that anyway!

Holiness is the missing element in the majority of Christian living where anything goes. That is not the heart Yahweh wants.

Obedience is to the whole word of Yahweh, not just the passage we like. If you ever wondered what Yahweh’s will is, there it is.

PS “Cleanliness is next to godliness” is not in the Bible and neither is “God helps those who help themselves.” I’ll bet some mother thought that one up.

For Atheists

Print Friendly and PDF

You say Yahweh does not exist? Whoopie! I’ve decided taxes don’t exist. I hate paying taxes. If they don’t exist I don’t have to pay!

We’ve only just begun. DNA – that does not exist. Male-female, that does not exist. Old age (I get to live forever) does not exist. Who knows where this can go.

What God calls Abomination?

Print Friendly and PDFYou can find this word in any dictionary but it is used frequently in the scriptures to define something that God hates.  The picture I prefer is this – an abomination is like a filthy, smelly, putrid rag, wet and bloody which you pick up with rubber gloves and, at arm’s length take to a trash can or better yet, an incinerator.  There is Biblical evidence that this is a good definition of the word.  But to what does God refer?  What does He call an abomination?

A List of Abominations

Here are some abominations:

  • homosexuality, (Leviticus 18)
  • shellfish (Leviticus 11 shall be an abomination to humans not to God, including some birds and insects),
  • gold and other precious items associated with false gods, (Deuteronomy 7 which also brings a curse to a family if it is brought into the home),
  • slaughter of children which would include both before and after birth
  • study of false religions in the same chapter
  • such persons who do these things are not permitted inside the community as well.

That means none of these are allowed in heaven.  In fact anyone caught doing this was, in the Old Testament stoned, with stones, not drugs or alcohol.

In Deuteronomy 22 and 23

profits from whores are not allowed in the church treasury.

Proverbs 3:23 calls

perversion an abomination, but it not only applies to perverse actions but also to people who, no matter what God says, go the other way.  Anyway – you can look this stuff up yourself.

Here is a list of spiritual sins that God hates:

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

That list must include American television, newspapers and other media which have become unreliable, and deliberately lying and withholding important information.

1 Kings 14 calls

sodomy an abomination, including male prostitution.

Proverbs 17:5 says

those who justify the wicked and condemn the just are an abomination to God.

I see that all the time in politics.  I wonder if these guys are aware of what they are doing?  There is a pay-day for everyone.

What about the vendor who has hidden weights on his scale?  He is under the knife on this too.  Praying to God when there is known evil in your heart is an abomination to God also.  (Proverbs 28:29) If we do not know about our sin we have leeway in God. He is not unfair.

There are many more.  Right now someone is saying – but I am under the New Testament – these abominations do not apply to me!  That is false comfort.

God’s word applies to everyone everywhere

God’s word is settled in heaven, and it applies whenever and wherever it is a reality.  The response is not “oh, this does not apply to me” but the response should be, “Yes, it may apply to me and I’d better be about repenting double quick.”

Forgiveness does not change the past, it covers it

Whatever sin is under the blood is forgiven.  To be forgiven never changes one word of what God said or meant.  In fact, it confirms it.  The Law does not go away – it is just overcome by a higher law.

So that list of abominations could also be a list of what God forgives.  Years ago when I was teaching at a woman’s prison there was an inmate named Betty who knew God and was still rebellious.  I said to her in 1975, partly in jest, “Don’t be caught dead without Jesus.”  A year later she was released and I learned she was shot dead in Charlotte, NC.  I often wondered about her?  Did she make it?
