God is Sovereign – sort-of

Sovereign means in total control. This mantra is frequently quoted. “We can only ask God. We are powerless. He is sovereign.”

This can be a giant cop-out. God was sovereign when He created the world (Genesis 1). He turned a huge area of authority over to Adam (man) to control, that is the world and its systems. Adam even had control over the animal kingdom.

Gen 1:26 – dominion means control in this passage.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

God delegated much power to Man

But in Genesis 3 Adam voluntarily turned over the world and its systems to Satan. (I won’t quote the whole thing.) And Satan is still the boss over the world. The whole world, says the Bible, lies in the wicked one.

1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

God did retain authority over the earth. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, (i.e. what the earth produces.) The book of Amos reminds us He is in control of the weather. And He still controls individuals.

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

God’s rule is only delegated to those who are under His direct authority through obedience- the nation of Israel and Christians. God has restored to believers all the authority over the enemy at any one point – raising the dead, casting out devils, healing the sick – the whole shebang.

Luke 9 And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. 2 And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.

Naysayers are powerless

Some preachers say that was for former times. Why? Perhaps because they do not have that power? Why should their powerlessness restrain ours? Those who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit AND who are obedient to the Word have access to everything God granted in the former generations. To say otherwise is to have

2 Timothy 3:5 a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.

For those outside His will and His word – the world and all its terrors of flesh and devil prevail. God is not in control of China or North Korea. He could blast ‘em both off the face of the earth. He still has the power to correct evil, and especially over nations. But the North Korean people “elected” their leader, such as it was, as have so many nations in dire circumstances today.

The power for those who believe

God has given believers (those who believe His word) the authority and subsequent power over all, if they take it and use it. It’s like a check in the bank. If you don’t cash the check, you don’t have the money. Simple. If you do not use the power of god, you might have it but it is of no consequence.

If we say God is Sovereign in order to avoid our responsibility for obedience then shame on us. Jesus said on the cross, It is finished. He means, He has done all the work. Now we pick up the challenge, to complete His work as He has directed.

We can have power over nations

Syria and its nasty genocidal leaders are our responsibility, first in prayer, and then possibly in the natural. Since I don’t work for the President of the USA (and you can forget wimpy NATO or United Nations from ever doing anything)) I can only pray believing God will bring to swift judgment nations which terrorize, exploit and murder their citizens in the streets which is what is happening today across the world.

Simply saying God is sovereign is no cure, and certainly no excuse for obeying the will of God. Period.

God’s Judgment upon Nations – and why

This is a topic about which few people write. But the Bible is clear; in addition to individual judgment, nations will be called to account. Does this happen after the end of time, during time, or some other time? Perhaps all three.

Let’s look at the map. China is the largest single nation in terms of population on the face of the earth. It is rife with poverty and lack of rain. In spite of the fact that China has been a distinct national group she has been a land of war for the better part of 4,000 years. All their pride in longevity does not erase the the reality of failure in so many ways. But look at what China did.

China swiped two nations, Mongolia, which is about the same age as China, and Tibet. That happened around 70 years ago and the wounds and anger have not subsided. You can be sure when things do not improve God’s word has been violated in some way. Here is the scripture.

Acts 17:26 And He has made from one blood[a] every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,

The Greek word in this passage is “ethnos” meaning an ethnic group of some kind, usually based on language.

God says nations must not grab and from others

In other words, keep your hands off another nation, their people and their land mass. Period. Because China was weakened by civil war, the Japanese got their hooks into China in the 1930s perpetrating great evil on the Chinese people – and look what happened to Japan at the end of World War II.

Germany got greedy and took Austria, Poland, Italy and France, headed towards England, Spain, Russia and the rest of the Slavic nations. Look at what happened. Germany was basically destroyed. Only the work ethic of Germans brought it back, and Germany did apologize for its anti-Semitic behavior finally.

A public apology helps

Japan has not apologized, and she continues to move 3 steps forward and 2 back decade after decade. Not only has Japan not apologized for its wickedness (think of the Rape of Nanjing 1937) http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/nanking.htm

but Japan is now romancing Mongolia because she wants land and Mongolia is the largest land-locked nation on the globe. The Mongolians have reason to be angry at China and they might just welcome Japan. The Chinese have reason to be nervous once more.

Evil leaders mean trouble

Then there is North Korea, a dying nation with reports of cannibalism. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/02/05/the-cannibals-of-north-korea/

China created this false barrier against the Japanese and the Americans, and North Korea has been a threat, much of that hot air, ever since. North Korea needs to return to its natural language fold – and will according to many modern prophets. [see KimClement.com]

Is anyone more miserable than the Muslims? See the constant wars in the Middle East. The Islamic religion (Koran) says that Islam will take over the whole world, or death to non-believers, called “infidels” a simple, direct theology which is creeping into every nation. But their losses continue. They kill at random, esp. women and children. Allah is descended from the ancient god of war. https://www1.cbn.com/churchandministry/1400-years-of-christian-islamic-struggle

How can a group survive if they kill off both the next generation and the women who will produce children? Don’t try to answer that one. Death is not a solution to the world’s problems. God says He wants life,

and life more abundantly. John 10:10

God’s plan is not abortion but life. Islam is going the exact opposite way from God.

The Middle East is a giant mess, politically and economically. When Egypt agreed to be at peace with Israel all was well. Now, no more. Egypt ended its provision of oil to Israel and the bottom dropped out of their own oil supply while Israel found 100 years of oil under their land. We say in Texas – Don’t mess with Texas. In Israel they say Don’t mess with Israel.

In fact there is a scripture for that.

Genesis 12:3 – (paraphrased) If you bless God’s people, He will bless you. If you curse God’s people God will curse you.

I’m not saying this because I am a Christian and an American – but because I have read the Word and I know what it says. More importantly, I know God means it and He won’t change His mind. Period.

You are not convinced? Look at Africa’s 200 years of constant wars. The Muslims in Sudan fought for South Sudan with much killing and terror. But South Sudan was able to separate itself as an individual nation in 2012 and is very prosperous. Now North Sudan is separate and living in poverty. That is what war does. It brings poverty and poverty is another sign of God’s displeasure.

So God continues to judge those nations which out of order and not working for the good of their own people and that of other nations.

God’s Plan for Sheep & Goat Nations

All nations, just as all individuals, have a clear cut call from God. (Jeremiah 29:11 for individuals). The Bible refers to nations as “ethnos” rather than  geographical divisions.

Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations {ethnos} of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.

It’s not likely you’ll ever hear a sermon on this. Although you might learn about God’s divine intolerance for world government. That has been tried and failed, badly. About 5,500 B.C.E. at the Tower of Babel all human beings spoke the same language; after they tried to replace the government of God with their own under the direction of a wicked dictator Nimrod, God scrambled all the languages and communication became impossible. Today the unstable nature of the European Union should give us pause; maybe this is not God’s perfect will for Europe. God prefers Unity over Union.

However, God does have a clearly defined political jurisdiction in mind for all nations and a specific contribution to the whole of mankind for each individual nation. The United States of America was formed officially 236 years ago but the call itself is eternal. And that destiny for this nation is clearly given in the Declaration of Independence

All men are created equal.

America’s global contribution concerns the sanctity of the individual.  That is what we Americans bring to them world table; it is the reason people flock here from across the globe.  It is also the same reason we can fail as a nation. If individualism gets out of hand as it has in the past four decades is leads to an identity crisis which we now seek to correct.

There are 191 nations today; each one has a call.  It is not my job to know what the call is for each one of them but I believe I know the call of these three.

  • England demonstrates a respect for history, especially national history, and because of that respect England also is able to adjust to changes in the world and to culture. But like individualism in the USA it is also possible for that ability to become a trap and send the county into free fall.
  • China demonstrates respect for and love of national identity, but in the 16th century China pulled away from the world to protect herself from change and world interaction. China became fearful.  When you embrace fear you make yourself irrelevant.  Fear is rightly called “frozen.” China wanted to preserve its identity so carefully that it withdrew into itself and the Chinese people have suffered great loss from this over the subsequent years.
  • Estonia showed the world how to rid itself of a tyrannical dictatorship of the Soviet Union through spiritual warfare, in her case, the power of music. To my knowledge Estonia has not lost that power or its ability to teach the rest of the world.

Controversial Palestine may be a nation in God’s eyes but because it claims to own Israel it cannot be identified as one. God set aside Israel as His own nation with its own specific territory, and a land mass considerably larger than the one Israel now occupies. Because God disciplined His people for a time, other nations assumed they could take over.  They do that at their peril. God has promised once Israel is back in her land He will defend it at all costs.

Goat nations are those that disobey basic moral law and rebel against God. They do not need to stay that way. Like individuals, they can repent and reform. Today Syria is a good example of a nation badly astray. Also, North Korea is a goat nation which is coming down in our lifetime, thankfully.

I will let my readers search out their national Godly ethnos. If you find that out, let me know.

What has God Called Your Nation to Be

All nations, like all individuals, have a clear cut call from God.

About 5,500 B.C.E. at the Tower of Babel all human beings spoke the same language.  After they tried to replace the government of God with their own under the direction of a wicked dictator Nimrod, God scrambled all the languages and communication became impossible.

Every Nation has a Call

Today the unstable nature of the European Union should give us pause, that maybe this is not God’s perfect will for Europe. And the embarrassing failure of the United Nations is an example of why global government is a foolish goal. Unity is internal; union is external and God wants the former.

God prefers Unity with Him over Union in the natural. He classifies nations as either sheep or goat. He does have a clearly defined political jurisdiction in mind for all nations and a specific contribution to the whole of mankind for each individual nation.

The United States of America was formed officially 236 years ago but the call itself is eternal. And that destiny is clearly given in the Declaration of Independence

Americans bring to the world table the sanctity of the individual; it is the reason people flock here from across the globe.  It is also the same reason we can fail as a nation, if individualism gets out of hand as it has in the past four decades. That individualism has now come to a national mess, so out of control that thousands have not a clue who they actually are. Every blessing and call can be bastardized to an extreme and become a curse.

When President Donald Trump says he wants “to make America great again” he means to restore the primacy of the individual and God’s call to America as a model for individual liberty. Does President Trump know this? Probably not. He appears not to be a person who theorizes; he leaves that to philosophers. His word to the past managers of America is, “You’re fired.”

God is a Globalist for His Church

There are 191 nations today; each one has a call.  It is not my job to know what the call is for each one of them but I believe I know the call of these three.

But like individualism in the USA it is also possible for that ability to change to be a trap and send the county into free fall.
  • China long continuous identity shows respect for and love of nationhood. Her glory days were the 15th century but in the 16th century China pulled away from the world to protect herself from change and world interaction. God looks at the long haul.

God is a Nationalist for Secular Ethnos

If you are paying attention you’ll notice I’ve eliminated Palestine which might be a nation in God’s eyes but because it claims Israel’s territory it cannot be identified as one. God set aside Israel as His own nation with its own specific estate, a land mass considerably larger than the one it now occupies. The deed for this land appears in Ezekiel 47. I will let the other internationals reading this blog search out their national Godly mission. If you find that out, let me know.

Jesus Was Not Politically Correct

In a day when people tippy toe around the truth as though it was social cyanide, “what would Jesus do” is radical and unacceptable.  But that should surprise no one – Jesus was unacceptable and unaccepted.  Still, He continues to be the standard for us and our age.throw-moneychangers

Jesus’ focus was on the Temple in this passage since that was His House and Father God planned the Temple for prayer not commerce.

John 2:12-17 After this incident, Jesus, accompanied by his mother, his brothers and his disciples, went down to Capernaum and stayed there a few days. The Jewish Passover was approaching and Jesus made the journey up to Jerusalem. In the Temple he discovered cattle and sheep dealers and pigeon-sellers, as well as money-changers sitting at their tables. So he made a rough whip out of rope and drove the whole lot of them, sheep and cattle as well, out of the Temple. He sent the coins of the money-changers flying and turned their tables upside down. Then he said to the pigeon-dealers, “Take those things out of here. Don’t you dare turn my Father’s house into a market!”

If He did this today he would be jailed at the very least for disturbing the peace if not assault and damage to property.  Jesus never damaged people; He turned over the tables not the people managing them. Jesus saves humans but He does not necessarily save systems, or governments.

He only acted on principle; in this case the love of money as the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10) was the source of the problem. Modern rioters murder for their cause and feel justified. But the use of violence to promote a righteous claim never works; it only promotes more violence.  Think of Black Lives Matter here.

Jesus takes on a host of leaders who contaminate the word of God with lies and deception. Matthew 23:16-30

16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing. But if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’ 17

Swearing was and still is a form of verification of one’s word.  In court we swear on the Bible; some Christian denominations refuse to swear on anything because the Bible specifically opposes that.  Your word should be sufficient.  Of course for those who want to lie, nothing makes any difference anyway.

But swearing on anything makes no sense.  In no way does it confirm or deny the what was stated.  Furthermore the Lords of Swearing have made yet another rule for living.  You can always tell when a government is failing by how many worthless and futile rules it has.  Continue reading
